Default Tune recommendation for 4.0 build?

So I'm about to pick up my 2006 4.0 Carrera S from the engine builder and they use Softronic for their tunes. I did not want my EvoMS tune on there as it was developed for the 3.8, and also I am going with a catless x-pipe, headers and have the IPD plenum and GT3 throttle body... and Scrhick cams, so a custom tune is in order.

Any thoughts on Softronic versus other tuners for a custom tune? My goal is to have the most reliable tune possible, and one that doesn't stifle the engine. I'll run the Softronic as it is trusted by the builder, but I'm always open to suggestions. I bring this up because I was talking with a Porschefile friend of mine who has been in the (Porsche Tuning) game longer than I, and they indicated Softronic is not necessarily their first choice for tuners.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Oh yea, I blew the engine up last spring at a club track day. It was apparently an oiling issue and rod through block scenario. Photos are above.

Thanks,

Jason

Try Jake Raby at Flat Six or LN Engineering for tune sources. Given your build to 4.0 I’d want to tune that on a dyno. Look forward to hearing about the progress!

I'll do a build thread when I get my car back. I haven't compiled a complete list of the parts going in yet.

Turn3 Autosport in Surrey BC did the build and they contract with Softronic for tuning. They have good experience rebuilding these engines, and are only a couple hours from me and can do the engine install and break in properly.

A buddy of mine just got his Raby 4.0 build back so I'm looking forward to doing a driving and dyno comparison. There is little 4.0 data out there so there will be some more very soon. My friend did not do cams and his is still running the 3.6 tune as his car was a standard 997 Carrera, so I expect some differences in the power profile. He does have headers and IPD Plenum/GT3 throttle body.

I've heard very good things about FVD - give Rhonda a call down there and see what she has to say.
