997.1 vs 997.2 back-to-back jaunt

I had a 2007 C4S, the a CTSV, now a 2009 C4S, The 997.1 did seems to run freerer, and rev a bit quicker. The S mode on it felt different than the S mode on the 997.2, as it made it a bit more raw feeling. The 997.2 has a much better transmission and the LSD in it really helps you power out of turns, and the extra HP and torque is noticeable. Given the two with different price points, the 997.2 is better overall. There seems to be about a 10K difference in prices on then, if you have the extra 10K do the 997.2, but the 997.1 is very much fun as well. The 997.2 PCM 3.0 is perfectly fine and way better than the PCM 2.1. It does not stream BT music is its only drawback, but get a Ipod nano and load it up with music and get the Y adapter....and you are good to go for PCM 3.0. As for driving, the 997.1 at speeds above 100 or so the front end would get a bit light, the 997.2 has a different front bumper and I think a bit more downforce to get rid of the high speed lift. Sound? Well I had Dansk mufflers on the 997.1 which really sounded great, on the 997.2 just the Fabspeed X pipe....I had the FVD race cans on it....sounded great but after 40 minutes got a bit of a headache from the booming sound...so went back to stock. But it really sounded good, and going down a street or in a tunnel, it got noticed.

The .1 C4S had the exact same curves and width. Just different tail lights and no red reflector. I had both and I think I like it better without the red stripe back there. Pic. here of my -06 C4S. Loved that car. Tubi exhaust was just perfection. Good on the .2 C4S too but not quiet the same grunt.

I went from a .1 to .2 and I love everything about the move except Porsche really missed it with the exhaust and engine noise in the cabin. Its way too quite in the car unless you have the windows down. It forced me to go with all these mods:

Its so damn loud outside the car, windows up its still pretty quiet. On my .1 I just had the exhaust and it was fine.

This is a great write up. As a .1 owner, I love my car but also love the .2 as well. For me is it was a low miles .1 with warranty or a .2. I chose the .1. In reality the cars are very very similar in performance as confirmed by the published figures. Also interesting that the lap times are much much closer than I would have guessed given the HP difference. I still think the 997 generation of cars provides the best value out there. If you have a little more disposable income, I think the .2 is a better overall car but the .1 is no slouch or anything to be ashamed of

I like the light shape on the 997.1 better too, but I wish it was LED that were OEM. Tempted to get aftermarket ones, but a little worried about quality.

Is the 997.1 a C2S? Curious, as the C4S and C2S are night and day different driving experiences. Apples and oranges really. My 997.2 C2S feels and is substantially faster than my 05 C2S . Much better handling overall, especially in the front end. The 997.1's I drove (including the GT3) all had "unplanted"/floaty front-ends in comparison to the .2's, which felt substantially more planted. The only thing I would give to the 997.1 over the 997.2 is the stock exhaust note (No DFI). Albeit, a Sharkwerks center bypass fixes that.

Surprised to hear your 997.2 C2S feels faster than your 997.1 C2S. I drove 997.2 GTS PDK back to back with my 05 997S 6 speed and I was underwhelmed, felt I was just driving the same car in a different color with an automatic and a quiet exhaust.
Caveat: My 997S has PCCB, 44lbs unsprung weight off all four corners might be part of this.
