Road & Track praises 997 GTS, calls 991.2 GTS a Modern Day 928
Another reason to believe that the 997 GTS is destined for eventual collectible status, especially 6MT cars?
"But this GTS is not, as some suggest, a bridge between the Carrera and GT3. Instead, the 991.2 GTS closes the gap from the Carrera to the top tier road-focused 911, the Turbo. Naturally aspirated 911s were high strung, they rose to a crescendo. The Alanis Morissette of engines, they were at their best when angry and screaming. That's what made the old, naturally-aspirated GTS reminiscent of the GT3, a car that revs to 9,000 and wants you to run it ragged at every shift. The new, turbocharged GTS has a different demeanor, one more suited to grand touring. Though it tries its damndest to make you think it isn't a turbo, it just can't hide its turboey not Turbo turboness. It feels familiar at the extreme ends of the tach, but the abundant mid-range transforms the driving experience."

A modern day 928. Lol, I grew up in and raced 944s and 911s in the 928 era and none of us thought much of them back then.
That said, I drove a Miami Blue 2017 GTS Targa yesterday and may go back to get today. Waiting on wife to drop by and look at the color first. It is an amazing car, much better than the 991.1. I think its the best 911 I have driven after having owned both 997.1 and 997.2s purchased new and used as daily drivers.

R&T did a similar story on the AMG MB GTS and the Porsche Carrera GTS two years ago and said this:
The AMG was clearly designed from the beginning to take the fight to the Porsche, from the faux center-lock lug-bolt covers (which, this being Mercedes, have an exact torque specification of 22 lb-ft) to the fastback body shape that looks deliberately 911-esque at a distance. I'm certain it will sway some 911 buyers the same way the Panamera has picked off stragglers from the S-class demographic. But it's no Nine Eleven. So what is it? In the course of enthusing about the AMG's virtues, my Marine aviator friend, Jim, happens to mention another German sports car he's always liked. All of a sudden the realization hits me. V-8 power, wide shoulders, self-shifting transmission, fastback profile . . . Now it makes sense. The 911 Carrera GTS is the best 911 I've seen in a while, and the Mercedes-AMG GT S is a near-perfect successor to a very different Porsche. As I recollect, they called it the 928.
Here's the full article from Nov 2015: http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...-porsche-911/. I'm not sure a rear engine Porsche can ever feel like a front engine Porsche. Even though the rear engine car has been tamed significantly, there is still a difference. I think the Nov 2015 R&T article has it more right.

Motor Trend gave the 991.2 GTS a glowing report in this head to head against a M4 CS.
They said the 991.2 made massive improvements over the 991.1 and it is perhaps the best 911. Covers all bases with no compromise, a pure sports cars.

that R&T article is total clickbait and fake news. I drove my 997 from Vancouver to LA and many times wished i had my 991.2 instead as it is far better as a GT on highways but it is not that far from the 997 that it resembles a 928 or a GT. It is also not a panamera which is the true Porsche GT car and more of a 928 modern version.
Alanis Morrisette of engines?? Excuse me while I puke in my mouth. I bet the author drives a Leaf.

There's only one sentence in the article that refers to previous GTS, with a sentence immediately about the new one (color emphasis mine):
Karl.

I suspect Travis might be referring to the 991.1 GTS (not the 997 GTS).Karl.

Lol, more suited to grand touring and capable of running comparable Ring times that a GT# RS when on comparable tires. Typical silliness from car magazine writers with little or no personal, hands-on (not beat writing) motorsports or track experience. Think about it, what about the 991.2 GTS engine makes it bot suited for track work, especially if it can push a GTS weight and suspension around the Ring when on comparable tires?

All GTS 911s are great cars. Love em. I'd prefer the 991 versions though for performance and looks. I'll take a .2.
A similar RT comparison could be made between any 991 versus 997. No compelling insights from RT, which is not surprising.
