Default 997.1 air box

2008 997.1S 3.8L. During an air filter change I noticed the bottom of the airbox did not have a screen. The filter was exposed and very dirty. I have seen a white screen material in photos of the bottom side of the airbox. Is this an issue to be fixed?

I don't think it screens much - your filter element does the heavy lifting.

#7 looks like a support of some sort to keep the filter from moving around

IIRC it sits in the bottom of the assembly and it's called a strainer frame - the strainer being the material that seems to be missing from OP's box...and it's much smaller than the air filter element. The air filter element sits in the box and is supported by the edges of the box itself.

Looks like this. The purpose is to keep debris out but let water drain through it.

What part cleaning machine is that? Looks very nice!
OP, I don't think that screen can be replaced.

It's a stainless, heated, ultrasonic, TASCsonic with sparge bar. It's awesome for degreasing stuff and I have it loaded with aluminum safe cleaner.

But the part I linked (#7) comes with the screen material in the frame.

I read somewhere it was by design to transmit some additional motor sound into the cabin for you listening enjoyment, yes, no ?

You might be thinking of the Helmholz resonator which is part of the upper portion of the airbox.

That was my thought too while cleaning my airbox the other day. However there's this for the 997.2 box:
https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...=997236mainair

To my knowledge no post-997 airbox contains a screen on the bottom-- if they do at all they're located on the walls (linked example) or above the filters (below).

GT3 Touring

Makes no sense that they'd add the screen for sound boost AND a Helmholtz resonator though.

That screen can be replaced. I replaced mine myself since it was torn.

I bought from sunsetporsche parts.
