Poor radio reception with aftermarket radio

I've done some internet searches but not really found much in the way of solutions. I recently replaced my PCM2.1 with a Pioneer NEX. It's great but i'm missing FM a little. The reception is horrible and Pioneer has traditionally been pretty good about radio reception. Does anyone have a solution to get that reception back?
I read about a cayenne (?) that installed a HF specific(?) antenna. Is that a solution? how would it work with my new radio? would I have to route the antenna wire all the way to the back of my radio? How would I even do that?
I have a 997.1 coupe if that has any bearing.

hi... as DC911S says, check the installation on the back of the radio... the dash kit used should have come with the antenna conversion cable... if installer did not use that cable it might be the cause of the bad reception - or no reception at all... OEM antenna connection to PCM has a special connector that needs to be converted if u install aftermarket... you can see what the cable looks like in this kit (green connector cable in the pic):

The OEM FM antenna needs an adapter to plug into an aftermarket stereo. the PCM has 2 antenna connectors, one black and one yellow. From my research, yellow is for GPS and black is for radio. I connected the black to the adapter and went into my radio. I get some reception but it's pretty terrible.

I found the Metra 40-EU56 but the connectors are so close together- i don't know if the separate connectors from the car (black and yellow) will fit.
I could go with a non-name brand one with the connectors on separate lines, but I'm wary about mediocre reviews. That could be that they don't know that they need to connect a cable to the radio's antenna on lead though...

What's the FM sensitivity rating spec on your new receiver from the spec sheet? Might be that it doesn't have good FM sensitivity. You want one with a spec of 8 to 12 dBf.
