Default 2005 997 cup holders

I have a 2005 997 S Cabriolet and the latch that you push in to open the cover for the cup holder is not easy to work and at times I can't get the cover to fold down and then I obviously can't get the cup holders out. Does anyone know how to fix this? I suppose I could purchase a new unit but I think that is about 300 400 dollars and I don't need a cup holder that badly!! Looking for ideas.

I purchased a used one on 6speedonline for 150.00. They wear out and all of the research i've done brought me to the purchase. I know its not a great answer, but thats what i did.

Used a letter opener to gently pry and wiggle free the driver's side cup holder. Worked perfectly. Now it works! Thanks for the tip!

Also there is a hinge piece that can fail. The pice/part is not available however an RL member was making them a few years ago. A small 3-D printed plastic piece with metal pin.
Not sure if he is still making them.

Anyone have the p/n for the cassette? My 13yo, sweet as she is, is a goon. Now, the pass side holder won't stay in the cassette - keeps springing out. And, I found a small, black piece of broken plastic in the pass footwell. Was today years old when I realized what is was from.
