Default Newbie 997.1 C4S

Hello all - happy to be a member and owner finally here. I like many others have lurked around for years but as of August I am a 2006 C4S owner. I've always found great value in being a part of a forum/community and look forward to being a contributor to this group.

I've had some neat cars leading up to this one:
- '05 GTI - loved this thing but always wanted a 1 series
- '08 135i - turned out to be a lemon

- '10 Civic Si - this was bought in a lapse of judgement incited by rage and confusion thanks to BMW's HPFP errors
- '11 STi - stage 2 with some other bolt on mods - fun

- '14 S4 - stage 2+ - fun as the STi but WAYYY better in every way

I learned that I really love the handling characteristics of AWD. I also learned that my personal favorite cars never have more than three characters. My problem is that I have never owned a true sports car. So, a couple years ago I started seriously considering a 911. I started driving as many as I could, looking around on the web, and eventually the car I have now popped up.

Good history, good records, clean inspection, etc. So, now I'm going to see how a 11 year old 911 does as a daily driver in the Mid West. It came with 44,000 miles, BBS CH-R's, sport shifter, sports chrono, and adaptive sport seats. The 6 disc changer was just icing on the cake .

Thus far, I've managed to get clear side markers on, perform my first ever oil change on my own car (and do some routine, simple, maintenance), obtain a set of winter wheels (lobster forks)/tires, and had a NHP 200 Cell X-Pipe and Fister Muffler installed.

The exhaust is the best. I wish I could provide examples with and without the X-Pipe but I believe the combination to be perfect for me. I have to think that it takes all the things the Fister does but ramps it up just enough for my liking.

* Darin Fister by the way is the man. He took time out of his day to contact me personally multiple times, followed up with me promptly. and most importantly added a personal, human touch to what could have been a very rote transaction. Oh, and the product was excellent. I highly recommend these guys.

I don't have any future, major mods planned. However, I do anticipate some upgrades here and there as things need attention. I am looking forward to getting to know this car better and turning a wrench when I can.

Here it is:

Great car. Congrats on the purchase. I just bought an ‘06 C2S myself. Nice to see another new 911 owner.

Welcome! Car looks really sweet. I have a 2006 C2 silver with the 19" sport design wheels.

Yes, Darin rocks. I got a Fister in March and love it. Tell me about the Xpipe. I thought those were mostly for the .2s.

Enjoy. Ive put almost 10k miles on mine in 9 months with no issues and tons of fun.

Thanks guys.

Nice ride, Bruce!

The X-Pipe an NHP product - I bought it second hand but it is available at a couple online distributors (here's one). It is supposed to have some HP/TQ gains but I honestly couldn't tell you what they are. In my experience that's just one thing that can really change the tonality of an exhaust note. The aural pleasure of this vehicle is just as important than anything else honestly. Everything I could find out there suggested I would like what it did to the system. I do - just loud enough for you to feel like you own a bad *** 911 but can chill out when you want to take the wife to dinner or keep your MPG's up for some reason.

I'm working on putting a little stock/this setup comparison together. I'll post something in an exhaust thread soon. For now though, here's a little sound clip (windows down with a Shure MV-88 on my iPhone).

Welcome and congrats. Looks like a very clean example. I too have an 06 C4S, in black, as a daily driver. Handles Pacific Northwest winters just fine.

Welcome and congratulations on joining the community! I also had a few other "performace oriented" budget vehicles (a few STi's, etc.) but am very happy with my 2006 C4S!

Thanks guys! I feel like this is still kind of a budget performance car at the price these are at. At the price they're at now it is a whole lot of vehicle. Thus far, the only thing I regret is not getting one sooner.

Bruce - to your question - the X-Pipe is supposed to add some power but my primary goal was to add some noise. The combination I've got going right now is excellent. I'll post more perhaps on a different thread but this is what we've got:

NHP 200 Cell x-Pipe

The Fister arrive in great shape - very clean as well:

Congrats on the new ride! I actually have a 08' 135i myself; a couple of minor issues but nothing too crazy. I'm attaching a link to our site's DIY tech articles on the 997 platform in case you're going to be doing your own maintenance and repairs down the line.

I have a '07 C4S in GT Silver with Turbo II wheels. It's the best Porsche I've owned. The best mod is the Fister exhaust. It really sounds right. Yours is unique with the BBS wheels.

thanks! The 135 was a great car in many ways but mine had to be torn apart 3 separate times to deal with HPFP issues among other things. They never could sort it out so BMWNA sort of made it right for me. Definitely hurt me after being a fan for most of my childhood/adolescence. But these things happen.
