I was just sitting next to that guy bragging on being faster than him.
(In his prime, he was 2200 kts faster than me.)
Well, the left engine started cranking, and I captured the "last breath" of that Blackbird.
Must have pissed him off.
The pic above is of a 16" gun and shell from the USS Iowa, displayed at a park in San Pedro.
They fired projectiles weighing from 1,900 to 2,700 pounds (850 to 1,200 kg) at a maximum speed of 2,690 feet per second (820 m/s) with a range of up to 24 miles (39 km). At maximum range the projectile spent almost 1½ minutes in flight.
That 2700 fps equates to 1834 mph, significantly slower that the SR-71. Kind of mind boggling.
The SR is on display on Edwards AFB, outside the USAF Test Pilot School Museum.

Very nice. Just like mine except for the roof. Consider replacing the orange side markers with clear ones. May seem minor but makes a big difference. Also looks like you have the OEM center muffler. Lots of options out there if you get to where you want some more exhaust grunt. That center muffler is really restrictive (and heavy).
