Hi all, have been lurking and poking around here for a while now and is getting to the point of actually pulling the trigger and getting a 997. I'm looking at these two and would like to get some opinions and see what you guys think.

I understand they are nowhere similar in specs but say if it's your first 911 and it's your money, which would you rather?

This will be my daily and I do plan to drive it like it's meant to be driven.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome. Nice to see these cars holding so much value. I couldn't have the first one it has yellow side markers

No really whichever you test drove, enjoyed the most. And assuming you get a good PPI.

For a first 911 it was very important to me to have the "most 911" experience I could get for the generation I chose.

So AWD and turbo were out immediately. I'm happy I went with a RWD naturally aspirated 911 for my first one. I'll be excited to add a 991.2 GTS (which is a turbo 3.0 liter) to the garage at some point, because I love turbocharged cars. Just didn't want to do it for the first one. I can't see buying an AWD 911 (unless turbo) while living in California.

Not saying the particular car posted here is the one to get or not

4S and you won't look back. Non-S and you will be wishing you went S and the wide bodies look the part.

Welcome! You can't go wrong on either. They both look like they are priced right for Cali cars with low miles. You might be able to negotiate a couple grand off.

If money isn't an issue then definetly get the 4S. Between the wheels, color and its big ***, the car looks sweet.

However, if you want to save $10k+ and get 99.5% of the performance...dont think twice about buying the base Carrera. I got such a sick deal on my 2006 base I have zero regrets. There are also reports the 3.6 is less prone to bore scoring.

A must have mod for both cars is the Fister exhaust. The base model rides higher so you just need to pay $800 to install some Eibach lowering springs. That will give you an even better stance than the S.

You won't regret either car. Ive put 8k miles on mine in 8 months and had 0 issues. Just make sure you get a reputable shop to do the PPI and ask them to cut open the oil filter to check for any debris.

Keep us posted.

I've been doing a LOT of research and have just reached an agreement on a car with a Rennlister. I'm super excited for me and for you! I think the 4S is a little over-priced and you're likely to get $2-4k off. There are quite a few cars, similarly equipped, for less. That Carrera is beautiful and that's a big $ difference!
One great tool I discovered is Autotempest.com. It searches ALL of the main sites (except Excellence), but includes Craigslist, and you can be super particular of what you're after. I was spending huge amounts of time searching every town's Craigslist till I found Autotempest.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Go get one. Got to be an S and has to have full leather. The other choices can be personal and anything you don't like on the one you find can be changed (wheels, seats, interior trim, etc)

4S absolutely! The grays are the best. A couple of upgrades and you'll have a beast.

For me, I would have to see the car in person. Walk around, look at the interior. The S ad doesn't show much interior photos, and the base car you can see scuffs and marks on the ashtray lid and the climate ***** are nasty.
You'll never be able to use all the HP on either car, so power is not much of an issue.
How well they have been cared for speaks volumes to me.

Good luck.

Welcome!

Had a 06 997.1 4S cab 6m. Upgraded to a12 997.2 GTS cab 6m and got the beautiful wide booty, with a nice boost in power. Wonderful car. Best car and best Porsche I've owned. Highly recommended for shoppers.

I vote the first. Wide hips with the all wheel drive, more options with S model. Plus that has full leather as well.

Yea I was going to mention that. On the cosmetic side the base needs new the AC buttons, ashtray and center console refinished. The 4S probably has similar issues you just can't tell from the photos. I would ask the seller to send more detailed pics.

Mine looked the same when I bought it. There are a couple options to get these refinished to look like new so I wouldn't be worried about that. We can walk you through that if needed.

cant tell much from the adds, you need to look at the real web site and find out all the options and alot more facts. A 4S is going to be alot more car than a regular carrera but you still need to find out options
Next is get a carfax and the dealers service history and then get a complete inspection, then decide if you want to buy it
