That dipstick would be for the .1 motors. Unless something has changed, the last I heard there is not a solution for the 9A1 due to the difference with the remote sump chamber. OP's car is a 9A1.

Whip. Can or will excessixe consumption make its way past the PDS (problem detection system) computer?

I'm not sure. Good question. You could try and find out, however I would be more inclined to start over.

I would get it scoped to rule out bore scoring. Blackened tail pipes and oil consumption let me to scope my 997 which ended up having massive scoring. Hopefully your issue is not that.

No other faults detected. So why this? No oil on the ground and no indication of smoke. Thanks in advance.

I wonder if that would be covered under warranty...

If you have a warranty you can have the O2 sensors fix and tell them about the oil concern. My guess is they won't scope anything until they change the oil first. You likely will have to pay for that.

Thanks. I have a full coverage 36/36 and have an appt for the sensor replacement Wednesday. They are covered. I will find out about the other. I was wondering if anyone knew once they confirmed scoring what would happen then. Wait for the engine to go before they did anything.

Hard to believe you are going thru 1.5 quarts / 300 miles without any smoke. Drain , measure, refill to top and check oil level on same level ground each time. I think you need to have a dealer or rep indy do this to get 2nd party verification. Then if you are using that much , have it borescoped.

All of our engines are failing just like us .......most just take a long time to fail. Taking good care of them will definitely help put you in the long group but sometimes you get taken out by something like cancer or bore scoring and thats what warranties and life insurance is for.

Ok verdict seems to be in. I took the car to service. They seem to think it is the Oil separater. There is a chance I mis calculated the extent of the consumption. Anyway. She's in for pre-op now. I will update.

Default Whoa!! 2nd full day in the shop!!!

What the. So, it's second full day in the shop. I did get a call at the close of business yesterday to tell me it could be anything from oil separater to cats. That they were running all sorts of diagnostics. Said something about the right side was all ki up and glowing. Can someone decipher what that means as I forgot to ask I was so shocked. How could a 38k mile 3.8 2nd gen be so jacked...

Default 02 sensor fault due too much oil

If I top off oil according to my oil level sensor my 06 2S will give me 02 sensor lights within 20 miles. I run the car half a quart low according to my oil level gauge and my 02 sensors and cats run clean. My 3.8 burns close to one quart of oil ever 700 miles while my last 996 never used oil between oil changes. Love the torque of the 3.8 just wish it used less oil than my Ford 150!

Well, id the AOS is failed it sends oil vapor through the intake and out the exhaust, and that will take it's toll on the CATS.

My 09 997.2 had an oil level sensor replaced early in its life. The digital oil measure is not always accurate, sometimes it's more and sometimes it's less. For example: If I leave the car idle for a few minutes and then re-check the oil, it can sometimes detect more oil. My oil consumption is more than my old Boxster S but still within the acceptable limit of what's written in the Porsche manual.
I actually make log of how much oil I put in each time, how many miles driven and where the marker of the sensor is. It's a good idea to do it if someone is worried.

Default UPDATE

Hi all. So, My car has been at the dealership for the past week. I had them do compression. Scope for bore scoring and changed out the plugs, right bank o2 sensor. Then finally they checked the cats. Up to the cats everything is great with the car. oil consumption was misdiagnosed by none other than me! She gonna be bad when i get her back!
