Default Recommendation for Asheville NC area shops

Approaching age 70 (still waiting for mid-life crisis), I'm looking for a 911, most likely a 997.1 C2S. Possibly a really interesting 996. I've been doing my due diligence on this and other boards, talking to owners, etc. Prior to finding the car of my dreams, I'd like to identify potentially good independent Porsche shops in the Asheville area (I'm about 30 miles west in the mountains).

I'm hoping that some folks on this board can pass along a couple of recommendations. Although I have a "trial" PCA membership, I have not yet been able to make any contacts in Asheville.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks.

Have you posted over in the regional forum? If not, suggest you do.

Interesting 996 = 996GT3 or 996TT, IMO.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will do so. As to an interesting 996, I'm afraid turbos and GTs are out of my budget. I started out looking 996s but succumbed to the 997 S temptation. Working with a budget in the 30-40k range, and primarily looking for a well-maintained coupe, manual trans, S if possible. I'm not concerned about mileage over maintenance as I have a Z3 bought with 90k and a 530i with 150k, both well maintained and reliable fun.

I'll post on the regional forum.

You can also checkout Tobacco Roads or the equivalent in your region. Or send an email to the president of the Carolina's Region PCA. Plenty of great Indies in Charlotte. If there isn't any in your area check out Hickory also.

There used to be a great event every Aug in WaynesVille NC called "In Den Bergen" too bad they stopped having it. It seemed really popular. I went several years in a row.

Let me know if you want me to checkout a C2S in Charlotte for you. Save you a trip.

Best of luck!

Thanks again for the suggestions. I checked out the link and now have some contact info. And thanks for the offer to check out a car. I went to an event at the Porsche Heritage Center in Atlanta a few weeks ago and got to try out a friends 997.2 S cab on their handling track. Pretty impressive.

I drove both 996 tip and 997.2 pdk to the mountains from Robbinsville, to Grandfather mt. Many times over the last 12 years. Best driving I have found. You should get a car and have some fun. You can tell all those guys at P D E they dont know what they are missing

Default Happy to show you my 997 sometime...

Hi Bill,

Small world! I was just in Waynesville this weekend. While I live in Atlanta, I grew up there and still have family there. Get up there a fair bit. Happy to show you my 997.2 C4S sometime if you're interested.

Unfortunately, I'm relatively new to the Porsche world and my few contacts are down here in Atlanta. I'll send you a Private Message with my contact info, though.

Good luck in your search!

Hey Bill,

Just came across this recommendation in my files. They are located in South Asheville:

Interesting twist. I'm an Atlanta native and, except for Army time, have not lived anywhere else. We moved up here about 2 1/2 years ago and have not looked back. It's a car paradise.

Would love to meet you when you are up here and may have identified "car of dreams" by that time.
