Default Castrol Edge 5W-50 Full Synthetic Oil vs Mobil 1 5W-50 Full Synthetic Oil

I would appreciate if anyone could tell me if it's ok to use the Castrol Edge oil vs the Mobil 1 oil (recommended by Ford) for a 2008 Shelby GT500 & a 2009 Shelby GT500KR? Both cars have odometer readings of less than 500 miles.

He posted here because he knows this forum likes nothing better than a good oil thread. I guess the Ford forum suffers this too.

Why change the oil? Unless those are 500 track miles.

Ok, for the OP, on a semi-serious note: I'm surprised Ford would recommend anything other than motorcraft oil on any car, but be that as it may, I think the castrol oil is a very valid option as long as it's synthetic and it's the correct weight.

When I purchased by 07 Shelby, it had a Ford Motorcraft 5w 20w semi synthetic fill. I immediately changed it to Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w 20w.

Ford has its oil specifications as does Porsche! Buy the oil that meets the Ford spec.

Since that was his first and only post, I doubt he'll take advantage of any of the sage advice offered here.

When I owned a '96 Ford Mustang GT I used the oil Ford recommended. When I sold the car with nearly 150K miles on it the engine was still quiet, used little oil, and still ran just fine. Like my Porsche after the Mustang I drove it in the heat of the desert southwest to the (nearly) arctic temperatures of mid-Missouri in winter.

I think I changed the oil or had it changed every 3K miles. Regardless it was whatever Ford recommended.

Trakcar, this has to be one of the WORST UOA for a 40W oil sheering to a 30W oil. I am really surprised to see your metal wear levels (low).. Seeing that 9.97 hurts.. H2O has higher viscosity at 100C (It's comic relief after seeing how the oil is beat up)..

Kevin, you translate that for me?
i was hoping someone would comment again but I left my Oil breakdown for dummies at the office.

Someone advised 5W50 for some reason or another.
