Default Turbo Lag

I have been driving the car for a good few days. The car feels very laggy. Nothing happens under 3.x k rpm, but above is a rocket. I am not sure if it's the tune or because it is an auto. I was following my friend's sti in second gear on an uphill mountain drive. While I am off boost he pulled away from me. The manual turbo doesn't feel as laggy. Is this also due to the gear ratio? Thinking if another tune can fix the problem. I do see 1 bar of boost when in higher rpm.

Guys with auto, your input will be greatly appreciated.

Talk with Kevin at UMW, he fixed my lag problem big time. Anything from 2,200 up, you'd better have plans!

All turbos have a bit of lag. I had Kevin's tune, and the Porsche doesn't have lag to speak of. Although I don't recall a ton of lag before the tune so perhaps you have a mechanical issue? I own a Subaru WRX too--that car has HUGE lag. Its actually annoying, or fun depending on how you feel that day.

I bet I am in the minority on this but i love turbo lag. Reminds me of being in space getting eeady for warp speed or something!

yes I do not mind the turbo lag too, gives the engine some personality and make you shift properly. I not a fan of the instant torque of modern turbo engines which is boring to wind out.

Lag reduction usually requires Hardware changes..

Quicker spooling turbochargers, with a large CAT exhaust system.

GT2RS intercoolers and 2.75" turbocharger inlet piping

On this platform to see lag go away, the turbochargers must spool up quicker.. Faster spool equals more air/boost which equals more torque.. The tippy needs to see torque to get it out of the hole.

I have a Tip and I don't feel that kind of lag. When I floor The pedal He drops The gears properly and goes. And I'm stock.

Do you have an X50 car? Those are a little more laggy than the non-X50 Turbos

Are you mistaking where the power comes in for lag?
Stock there's not much oomph under 3k. 4k is where it starts to get livelier.

I thought you already had a tune on that car?
My bet is that you have a boost leak. These cars are old and hoses are tired. I boost leak test every few months and fine at least 1 or 2 leaks per year. Just found a leak at top of plenum and blew #16 check valve also.
I'd start with a boost leak test. Search for videos....make sure you test at the turbos

My experience with UMW and Kevin's products has been great. Look at all the help he offers to those needing it on here on this forum and the understand the knowledge you're working with when considering a tuner. I'm not sure what you get at Cobb but it looks like a supermarket, UMW does turbo Porsche. Who do you talk to at Cobb if there is a problem, a veteran book of knowledge, or, one of several who field calls on every euro manufacturers' full line?
