Default 996T clutch replace in New Hampshire

Has anyone had a good experience with a shop doing a clutch replace on a 996 Turbo in New Hampshire?

Ideally, I'd like a shop in the North-to-South corridor between Hanover and Nashua (when I did a search, most recommendations were for shops over by the coast).

One dealer quoted $8k+ for a clutch and flywheel. Yikes!

I'm happy to go with an independent (even more so, as dealer can't get (and as a consequence won't install) Porsche Motorsport parts), but want one that is known to have good experience with these cars.

Any opinions (both good and bad!) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Blair Talbot also seems to get a lot of recommendations, so I'll probably also check-out him, if I decide I have to go that far to the east.

Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendation.

Alas, CT is too far to the south to be practical for me.

Thanks!

Precision Imports in Manchester. They're a Porsche specialist. Good people and great service.

It was pretty shocking.

Number was justified with repeated insistence that engine has to come out, though I've seen some DYI descriptions that indicate otherwise.

Have they ever done a clutch job on a 996T for you?

I've had a another private recommendation for the same folks, but it would be good to have another confirmed positive experience specifically for a Turbo clutch job.

Not that I really believe them, but dealer claims that somehow the Turbos are unusually labor intensive.

I do all of my own work. I am personal friends with the owners. They have done many 911 clutches. Its a pretty straight forward job. If I were looking to pay someone to do a clutch for me, Precision would get my money.

For what its worth, I work at Porsche of Nashua, and wouldn't steer you wrong.

Precision Imports is a great shop. I purchased my 02 996 Turbo in Oct 2014. Immediately after I contacted a friend who's owned 911's since the early 80's and without hesitation Precision Imports was the recommendation. I've used them several times and they're great. Contact is:

So, to close-out this thread, I thought I'd report back that I did go with Blair Talbot. His shop was pretty far out of my way, but Blair seemed very down to earth, and willing to go on record with best/worse-case scenario pricing. I also liked the fact that he was happy to chat with me about the ease of doing certain repairs myself...

His pricing on parts was also not wildly different from what I might have been able to source.

Blair did in fact pull the motor to do the clutch; saw the car apart with my own eyes. His position was that pulling the motor is the way he has done it, and he finds it easy to do. As one does not change clutches every day, he thinks it is also a good chance to give everything a once over on the bench. In my particular case, it also made it easier to deal with some heat-shield replacements.

As his time estimate for pulling the motor was in line with his assertion that it was not that hard (rather than the days-and-days that some shops estimated), the overall cost was not odious.

As I understand it, Precision Imports is now being run by Dick's son.

They seem like a good shop, but like every other shop I spoke to, they insisted that they would have to pull the motor to do a clutch, and their time estimate for the job was one of the higher ones.
