Default Converting tip to manual

So I've been looking for a while for a unicorn car.
Have a thing for green. Want a 996. Want a TT. Want a coupe. Want a stick. Want grey interior.

Saw one with tan and a tip.
Idle question from ignorance - how bad to swap tip to stick?

No idea, but I'd be willing to bet it's not too bad if you're a good mechanic doing the work yourself and have a lot of spare time & $.

Wrap?

I bet that the green is the hardest box you're finding to check off.

It will also be the least appealing to the next owner, if there is one.

I'd find the best car you can and wrap the car in the color you want. It'll be a fraction of the cost of converting a tip to a manual and you will have a lot more choices of cars and of what green you want.

Green will be as rare as hens teeth without a doubt, but don't agree that it would be less appealing to the next buyer.

I think if there were a tt built with paint to sample in a classy and classic shade of green like moss or oak, people would fight to buy that car for generations to come.

Default Converting tip to manual

There are threads about this conversion. I had a white TT tip I wanted to convert.

Drew the conclusion it was easier & cost effective to sell and buy a manual.

Wrap sounds like your best bet, if set on converting, do some research.

All the green ones I found had tan/wood grain interior. Green looks good with a dark interior. I agree the wrap is the way to go. Tips get way to much hate, I'm glad I went with a tip.

Take the idea of converting a tip to a manual out of your head. It's a lot more involving that drilling a hole in the floor for the 3rd pedal and installing the shifter. You need to change the harness, computer etc.

It wasn't more than an idle thought.
I had a C4S in that spec - rainforest and grey - a number of years ago.
Was hoping to find same but with more oomph.
Not many out there...

Wrap doesn't appeal to me at all.

Price out a "good" running 6 speed gear box.. Turbo or GT2.. $6 to 7K right now.. 10 to 14K for the GT2/GT3 box

Wiring harness will be $2500 to 3K

Pedal assy and lines is $750.00 - 1K

Clutch, and ECU tuning will put you around $2500 to 3K...

Not including labor..

Both are options. Both are $15k and up to do right.
That was what I was curious about.
Best case one magically appears.
Worse case I'll lose patience and buy a seal grey one.

i did a tip to manual conversion on a long block i purchased. nearly all of the accessories are different alot of the brakets and lines are different. ended up having to use nearly the entire set of accessories off my manual motor onto the Tip motor because none of the Tip accessories fit.

I'm not understanding how the accessories on a tip motor would have an effect with manual swap?

Tip alternator doesn't have the free-wheel pulley, Tip power steering pump is same as GT2 (no clutch assist)
Still debating converting my dad's 6TT tip to manual...
Nice thing about buying a cheap Tip car and converting to manual is you get to install all the GT2/Cup parts with the money you saved.
