The ECU will not register more than 65535 type 1 overrev. This number is the last one so it can be a lot more than that!!! Type 2 rev, can be normal if the max rev was increase, flash? Note: there are so many 996TT for sale........

That's exactly correct Dan, it's maxed out. My old track rat Boxster S went from 0 to 65535 Type 1 overrevs in 1 season

This looks like it was probably a track car.
IMHO, Pass.
