Default Windshield protection?

Can anyone recommend any windshield protection? I am getting ready to install the 3rd windshield in one year and would like to add some protection to it? I know there are several companies that make a clear bra like film. Any suggestions and real world experience welcome.

Thx...

Default Clearplex

You can order Clearplex windshield protection by emailing pawparts@gmail.com.

I've seen the Clearplex offered but they did not offer a precut for ours. I have headlights covered.

I've considered using conventional paint protection film like the Scotch and 3M products for this. They seem extremely clear on the headlights, are not as expensive as the "windshield specific" versions if purchased in bulk roll and self applied. My local PPF guy is willing to sell raw material for reasonable prices. Not sure how the windshield wipers would be affected but for track protection this seems worth further examination.

I've talked to a few places that do vinyl wrap, tinting, etc.

They all told me they haven't found a windshield product that doesn't yellow in about a year. If anyone has a different experience, please chime in.

For the OP purposes, a life of one track season should be just fine. That's all I would want or expect from an inexpensive solution.

It's cheaper and easier to just change your insurance to eliminate any deductible on glass breakage and not worry about it.

I can't imagine that any kind of film on the windshield would stay clear and not distort your field of vision.

I taped 2 rows of butcher paper over the windshield, with enough going over the rubber seal. Traced the inside of the seal, cut along the tracing for my template and cut 4mil safety film (from Amazon) to size.

Granted it is not pretty close up, however for about 1/10th of the cost from Clearplex I can deal with it. Change mine whenever it needs to be done.

I recently bought 8mil film (30" X 6.5 ft for ~$35.00 shipped) that I have not installed yet. Will check if the extra thickness would work too.

I'm about to put in the 3rd windshield this year. I'm not sure my insurance would be too happy if I started claiming them all even though glass claims should not count against you. I usually claim one windshield per year for this reason. There is a clearplex certified installer in my area. Gonna call them tomorrow to get a quote. OEM windshield plus install is almost $600 so clearplex might make sense.

My buddies were Clearplex installers several years ago. You need to plan on replacing it every year from what I remember. Seemed to work good for what it was.

New OEM windshield going in Friday. I'm getting the Clearplex put on next Monday by an authorized installer. They do a lot of exotics dealerships like Ferrari in the area. They are installing the Clearplex from the roll as opposed to the template precut kind. They said the precut Clearplex leaves you with a visible 1/8" or so around the edges due to the shrinkage process during install. With the custom trim install they can tuck the film behind the moulding for an invisible install. $350 installed. I'll report how it turns out.

350 is not bad looking forward to hearing about results.
