Default Drivers side mirror different from passenger

Hello all,
I am replacing the drivers outside mirror (reflective part only) on an 03 996tt because the mirror has a haze to it. I ordered an OEM part from Pelican and when the piece arrived, I noticed it looks different than the one that is in the car. The one on the car has a black plastic rim around the reflective mirror.

The passenger side does not have this black plastic trim.

Can someone tell me if their mirrors are different on your car too? Is there black plastic trim around your mirrors (both sides), or does the reflective part of the mirror not have anything around the edge?

thanks,
Dan

Auto dimming mirror on the driver's side. It is supposed to look different than the passenger's side mirror.

crazy!!
Pelican told me the code would be on the tag in the trunk if I had the auto dim mirror, but the code they gave me was not there.
I'm thinking maybe I ordered the wrong mirror and the code they gave me was wrong.
So, can anyone confirm that the difference between the mirrors is the black plastic trim?
thanks,
Dan

I literally had to go check on my car in the garage! They are different, driver's side has a round raised black plastic edge, not on passenger's. You learn something new every day.

thanks for checking on it for me.
I'll call Pelican and confirm the difference between the self-dimming mirror and the regular mirror... I'll bet that it's the plastic outline.

That, plus quite a few more $$$, I'm sure.

The difference is more than the black trim.

I always thought that was weird, figured the passenger side had been replaced sometime with a cheaper aftermarket part....good to know.

My drivers side looks as if it has a smoky blue tint and passenger side is clear. This has annoyed me a bit since the got the car years ago.

They are supposed to look that way.

Well heck!!
I just sent back the mirror and ordered the more expensive one.... Because the drivers side is smoky blue and looks faded.
