lubricating the starter switch housing?
Per my previous thread, my steering wheel was locking up about once a week.
no electrical issues, and no problem inserting or removing the key. the key just wouldn't unlock the steering wheel. would have to work it for a few minutes then it would work fine for days.
per suggestions, I replaced the ignition switch, which did not require pulling out the whole ignition housing unit. worked good for a week, but yesterday I had the same issue. This time it only took 30 seconds to jiggle it unlocked.
I've seen the housing at my porsche guy's shop and I was wondering rather than having him put the housing out (which according to sonnen porsche requires alot more work than replacing the switch), I could just get some silicone lubricant/grease on the lip that gets depressed at the end of the housing. I think it's just a mechical stuck issue and lubrication might do the trick. Question is whether there's a clear path to that little latch. and can I get the straw spray extender to the part, from under the dash, without pulling much out of the car.
I'm not handy, dexterous enough and my bones are too brittle to spend alot of time inverted and twisted under the dash. both factory porsche place and my independant want close to 4 hours of labor to take the housing out which they say require taking out the steering wheel and dash.
might not have a choice since I can't see doing it myself even if it's just working through the vent and under the dash.
so my next thought is lubricating it to see if that works.
so is that possible without taking it out?
