My first 996TT was brought to life with a well balanced pss9, h&r sways, and a proper alignment. It went from lean city on ramps to a surgeon's tool with suspension alone. It wasn't the best setup for hardcore track but it did give it more of a tight and edgy feel around town.

OK, the suspension upgrade is sounding more and more tempting. But I understand the Turbo already had one of the firmer 996 suspensions. What happens to the ride quality? Especially at city speeds, when I've heard the Turbo is particularly stiff?

The 996 TT does not have a firm ride, IMO. Certainly nowhere as firm as the 996 GT3.

Does anyone have recommendation for a coil over suspension? Is the Bilstein PSS10 the way to go or are there other options?

tt with X73 option would be firm as the 6 GT3. The stock suspension is firmer then the 996 stock suspension but not by much.

I've had a few 996TT's with stock suspension (non-ROW, x73, or otherwise) and the are not firm at all compared to any aftermarket kit. They're also overly high due to bumper height requirements at the time and the stock suspension wasn't designed to ride that high which magnifies the ill handling nature of the stock setup.

The PSS9/10 systems make if feel more tactical without being overly firm but like the others have said their are better systems by KW, Ohlins, but the price goes up as the kits get better.

My mods that have made the car feel less GT and more sports car fun.
Tune
Exhaust
KW V3 (probably the most important)
Eibach sway bars
One piece seats.
GT2 clutch conversion
Proper tires

If "boring" = 4 seconds of very little drama, a neck sprain, and it's all over before you know it, then sex is boring too.

I could be wrong but it seems for your driving habits you need to get into a sport cars that has tons of torque down low...GT500 or Z06..both will give you very easy tail wagging driving at your desired speed range.

John nice video. And I have to say a great sounding exhaust and beautiful car. And you are correct about upgrading the exhaust, suspension and tune to awaken the Porsche DNA in the car. What type of suspension upgrade do you have?

Although modded I never found my 996TT to be boring, ever.

Thanks, Jay - I really enjoy the exhaust. I have the Ruf PSS-9 suspension which comes with an adjustable rear sway bar. It's a really nice suspension...BTW, your car looks great, too - love the color. I have had black before and plan to do it again next time...

Do I understand correctly that you found the PSS9/10s firmer than stock?? If so, it would be great to know, because it would affect my buying decision if I couldn't improve the ride quality.

Re. the others you mentioned (KW and Ohlins), I've always understood the KWs are more track biased, and enough people who sell them (for my previous car) told me they would not improved the ride that I stopped believing the ones who told me they would. But for the Turbo (or any other 996), have you found they are better for the ride than Bilstein?
