Very sorry to see your car like that and such bad luck that it's not on camera, just about every other thing on the planet gets caught on CCTV.......... I always park as far from everything too, but seems to bring out the hearding instinct in people and they park right next to me? Good luck with the repair.

I'm so sorry to hear about your misfortune. Thank goodness no one was hurt.

I had a similar thing happen to me when I parked my 993 outside for an hour during the remodel of my house. Came outside and the car was crushed- door into the drivers seat, etc...no note, nothing.

It ended okay, I guess. A neighbor came home from vacation a couple of weeks later and told me he had just installed a video security system. Voila, caught the local Orkin exterminator on tape literally lifting my car off of two wheels when he backed into it.

The whole thing sucked, but confronting the Orkin guy, with Polar Silver paint still on his truck's bumper... priceless! Next time I won't be so nice. I will file felony hit and run charges.

Hang in there. Your attitude is commendable.

Best, TomF

Thanks. Yeah I will never understand that too. This is my 3rd parking lot hit and run and by far the worst.

wondering if there is talk of a payoff. i was amazed at how ( seemingly ) little damage constituted a total loss payout. but with the low mileage you had, that will cost "them" if that's what the insurance co decides to do. it could even accrue to your benefit.

I found out today there is frame damage to the rear - where all the weight is. I don't like the safety of that with a car that goes this fast. They will have to rip engine out etc now. Needs whole new trunk lid and spoiler now too. Its just adding up and up. Its worth good salvage money with the low miles. I can't get DV since its my own insurance and of course there is a clause for that. If I have to take it back fixed it will become my daily driver as any other value it had will be gone. Not a bad option I suppose...

i would think? that frame damage = total loss. i was continually nauseous when i was in your situation, waiting on the shop and insurance co to all figure out what was what..which is how/why i sensed that in your comment on the repairs. my worst fears were realized that they were gonna "loss pay", but it really went well for me, though i lost a cherry tt in the process. i was able to replace it though within two weeks. fortunately.

you're going to have a lot of options, sounds like. but please don't let them force a frame straightening repair on you. ..and you're right about the parts value. that's largely why they totalled mine. it had nice parts.

Thanks for the support. I will fight it hard. They acknowledge the safety concerns given its the rear. I am sad to see a beauty go, but it would be for the best at this point. Problem is staying 996TTS or go 997TT? Took me like 9 months to find this great car! I drove a 997TTS on a road track this week at Exotic Racing in Vegas. Just lacked soul. Fast of course, but no faster than my UMW tune on this car.

I hope for your sake they total it if the frame is damaged in rear as suspected but honestly I would be very surprised.

my wish for you is that this unfortunate turn of events results in you sliding sideways ( metaphorically lol ) into a new to you 997tt!

1. Not surprised no DV.

2. "frame damage"? Please. You want a second opinion on that. Adjusters and shops have been known to be in cahoots. If it is totaled, ill be someone makes a killing repairing that and selling it....Looking at that picture it is hard to see how.

It was hit by a truck. They struck the rear reinforcement bar which pushed the left frame rail left and down. Its MMs in difference, but needs a bend back. The body shop was less worried about it, but the costs are adding up quickly since it does need a new trunk lid and spoiler. Spoiler is damaged underneath on the bottom u can't see in pic and a chunk taken out of the trunk lid. Its worse than it looks just due the car having low miles and using everything new. All new quarter panel needed too. Should know more this week. Body shop has been great. I am hopeful for a total loss and seems the insurance guys are leaning that way. The next guy can enjoy his killer deal and I will find another low mileage gem somewhere I am sure.
