I am hopeful for a total loss and seems the insurance guys are leaning that way.
Rear frame rail damage will most likely mean total loss. If they want to repair it, make sure they have the proper Porsche Celette Bench. The shop needs to own the Celette Bench, then thay can rent the proper jigs from Celette for the repair to your specific model. It's engine out. And I think all the suspension parts too. Your estimates go up very fast at this point and the car gets totaled.

Again, sorry this happened to your Porsche. Seems like you have a good attitude about the loss. Good on you.

another thing to remember is that the total loss figure is roughly 60% of the value of the car. so if it even approaches that, they will look to total it.

agree with adam also on the "collusion" btw collision shops and ins co's. i sensed that when it was happening to me. my old motor alone was worth 25k.

Last I heard the repair was 35K. The car as salvage with 13K on the clock is 28-32K. I am just looking for a total and $62K or so pay out. Its likely...

I am so sorry this happened to you.. I know how it feels. My car was sideswiped in the middle of the night and when I came outside to drive to work, the entire side was damaged..
I felt really violated.. This was 14 years ago when I had just purchased my car (first month ownership)

Edited: .. I did not see that it might be a total loss.. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that the insurance make a favorable decision.

Tough man. I already called today on a 2005 996TTS, but it was sold. Not sure I can go 997. Its not about the money, but the experience. I am also in the hunt of an 05 GT. I really liked my 996TTS. I drove a 997TTS the other week. Fast yes, but not the same. Lacked soul and raw P-car behavior. Prices on 997s have come down in last year so it is all too tempting, but if I find a mint 05 TTS I just think it will hold value better and I will enjoy it more. Just my current thinking anyway. All I know is I miss my car dearly. I miss the pulse u get driving it. Pure crack. Sigh. Thank god I have a good cousin who I will drive his classic 2002 tomorrow. A car I adored forever. He is trying to make me feel good for now...

Just spoke with insurance. Its going to get fixed despite the bill being around $32K. All new deck lid and spoiler. Not a penny spared. All new porsche parts. I am somewhat surprised, but ok with it. I do love my car. The frame damage is minor at best on one rail. He said easy fix - no welding or anything. The bulk of the bill is the deck lid and spoiler. Happy with the shop so far. They are Porsche experts so I have no doubt it will look flawless in the end. Will have car wet sanded and sealed too when done. More pics in a few months as she goes under the knife.

I'm sure your shop will do a great job and your car is worth saving if possible. The insurance companies will repair as where in the past they would total =economics.
