+1.

Buy a full kit from Kevin (DM or SM), find a good porsche shop, should be all in for less than $3,000.

Sachs Stage 2.5 Clutch Kit - With Flywheel $2,495.00

And what is involved with the flash?
i've seen the 2.5 kit as low as 1300.00 and in another forum just now but thats - the flywheel. so, the kit for 2500/2600 is right.

the 25 hrs for labor? isn't. too bad you can't just go to someone like umw and just get a fair price on parts/labor all in. in general terms, it's best t find a good indie tech that gets you parts as inexpensively as you can.. and installs properly.

a *flash* is another term for a tune. it's a "must have", imo.

ya.. update on the clutch.

I also own a 02 C4 which really runs nice. The original owner of that car had the motor replaced at 39K. So I dug up the paper to find that shop, and get a second opinion on the TT clutch labor time. Since my 02 Cab runs so nicely if figured they must know something? I ended up bringing the TT to Jeff of Auto Sport Systems Fairfax for a drive. He explained that my Turbo clutch typically has a higher engagement point than I'm used to. My Carrera starts to engage right off the floor. I told him I thought the car was slipping when I pushed it in third gear ...perhaps I should have tried this a couple more times. It also has 55K miles, so I figured it was just time. We took and test drive and from the passenger seat things felt a little different. What felt like a slippage from the driver's seat, felt like a carnival ride from the passenger's side. The freak'n car revs up so quickly I supposed I misjudged what was going on. It's blurry fast! He said clutch was holding and the motor was strong.

He went on to say that just pulling the trans was not a big deal and gave me a reasonable price for when the time came, but said my clutch felt fine (other than the pedal assist spring needing some attention). So I left feeling richer and kind of stupid. I told him I would bring the car back when it has 60 to do the plugs, plus anything they could think of. Thing is, it will take me a long time to drive 5K.

Everyone drives different, but what is the average clutch life? I recently bought this car and it is bone stock and mint.

My 03 Turbo has just a few miles short of 110K miles on its original clutch. Feels like it should last forever.

My 02 Boxster has almost 270K miles on its original clutch. I think it has lasted forever...

There is a 996 Turbo (and I think it is is an S model) around -- search for posts by 'T2' -- that last I remember reading has way over 300K miles (I recall 360K miles but don't quote me) with I think it's original clutch.
