ABS failure!

ABS failure!
I get back from vacation and when I drive my car, I get that ABS/PSM failure light. I take it to a shop and I'm hoping it's the MAF sensor or at worse, the wiring harness. It turns out it's the ABS pump! $3500 for the pump and around $4000 for labor! I was hoping to get some feedback as to the price for this job.
To be honest, the car is much more livelier to drive without ABS and PSM. Your thoughts?

wow..sorry to hear THAT! can a conversion to rwd do it? that's what i would do, if so. gotta be cheaper. 7 grand!?! to fix? yikes ( though there's gotta be an error in labor estimate! no?! or get a used abs pump and a new indie shop!

i still find it hard to believe that the abs pump failed. i looked under the car with the tech and we could not find any leaks. the shop owner says the amp is spiking or whatever and thinks it's the abs pump. he makes it sound like the pump was in ventricular defribillaton. after a few google searches, i found that the abs/psm light would go away if they changed the maf or some other sensors.

oh man..i'm not so sure i'd replace my abs pump just because of abs/psm CEL on the dash. there's like 20 things it could be.. from mismatched tire sizes.. to as you've said.. a failing MAF. if you trust your tech?? go with his recommendation.. if not? a 2nd opinion would be my next step. really. GL

I would not replace the ABS pump yet. I had the same issue once from a bad MAF, and once from a worn wire to a front wheel speed sensor. This can be tricky to hunt down.
