Default buying a 996TT **which one of these two?**

I would like your opinion on the two choices I have narrowed down my search to and a reason why if you chose to say. Both local and both cars are black on black and these will be used for 70% street and 30% DE:

Car #1:

2001 6911 Twin Turbo
34,000 miles
Bilstein PSS10 coil overs
GT3 Front control arms
Rennline pedals and track mats
stock bumper with warts
Asking price: $39,995

Car #2

2001 6TT
50,200 miles
Agency Power black wheel lugs
Alpine CDA-9887 stereo head unit with integrated iPod control
Bumperplugs.com rear wiper delete
Fikse Profil 13 wheels in "Race black" finish (18x8 +44 front, 18x11.5 +44 rear)
GBox second gear detent replacement
Gemballa doorsills with 'BiTurbo' logos
Gemballa ECU reflash (1.0 Bar of boost pressure)
Gemballa floormats with 'BiTurbo' logos
LED parking lights from 42 Draft Designs (BAX9S style)
Porsche OEM interior carbon package (shift ****, center console)
Porsche OEM GT3 front brake ducts
Porsche OEM exhaust modified to remove catalytic converters (I have a stock exhaust which is also included)
Porsche OEM 997 SSK (Short Shift Kit)
Porsche reproduction silver hood crest (OEM gold crest included)
Precision Porsche GT2 replica front bumper
Smoked front side markers
Stainless steel pedal covers (unknown brand)
Venture Shield wrap on the entire front of the car, including bumper, hood, and front fenders
Windows professionally tinted at 30% on all glass
Asking $43,000

I will have a PPI done this coming week on the car I choose...

Any insight will be greatly appreciated!

TIA

I would value condition over additions.
You NEED to see each of these cars 1st hand and compare the condition. Get the cleaner (inside and out, mechanical and cosmetic) example.
That's my best advice. That said....I hate those early warts.

Cantrell's will take car of you. They do good work. If they are selling the car they should know it's history and condition.

Neither

first one is too expensive for an early model first year

second one, when I read about the gearbox detent repair, I stopped right there. I don't want a car that pops out of 2nd, ever. It's been driven hard, people don't just put these in unless there is a need.

patience is your friend when looking for a nice P car. My 996 took 15 months, my Turbo about a year, looked almost every day nationwide. Also, according to NADA this car is worth about $30K-$33K.

Not to rain on your parade, but I don't see any options on the list I'd pay 10 cents for. Ok, I take it back, I'll pay $100 for the SSK and the silver badge. So, I'd pay $31500 +100, providing it passes a very compresive PPI, and take out the Gbox detent fix and see if it pop out of 2nd. If it does, run away.

I spoke with my little brother a few days ago re 996 Turbo values and he confirmed what I knew all along. KBB is a joke, buy and sell back of NADA. That's where stuff happens. He has owned several P cars including a very nice '04 Turbo cab. He has also worked at the local Porsche dealer for years in sales.

I would have to agree with Nick. Both seem to pricey. Especially a wart 01.

And number 2 has a ton of mods, not that I am against mods but you don't know how it was driven or how the upgrades were done etc.

Just my .02

Rule #1
Never track a car that you can't afford to wad up and walk away from

Rule#2
Never track a car without personal safety equipment that would keep you alive in the event of a crash so you can follow a rule #1

Neither of the two cars listed strike me as an ideal first track car.

I vote neither as well. If I am buying a used car for $40k I want it totally stock.

If I could only choose between these two I would go for #1.

I don't think a G-box detent is a deal breaker at all, it is desirable IMO. Although I have no 2nd gear pop-out issues, I am going to have the detent installed in a few weeks preventatively when my new clutch goes in. This will just further prevent the 2nd gear popout from becoming a problem.

You would need to know if the detent was installed as a band-aid or not, but I suppose it could be hard to know for sure.
