Default Inconsistent boost response and occational overboosting

Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out an issue in my TT. Boost delivery isn't as smooth as it used to be. Under constant throttle application (lets say half throttle) boost will hold at .4bar for a number of seconds when it should really be building up, and then all of a sudden it jumps up to 1.2bar and takes off. Occationally it will jump up to 1.5 bar and hold until I let off (I don't hold it for long, and I try to avoid this). I've got an EPL K16 flash set for 1.2 bar, so 1.5 is overboosting. And then, sometimes I just can't get up to the 1.2 bar...it will max out at .8-.9 occationally.

So far I checked the hoses at the N75 valve, they look ok. I found a big crack in the Y-hose, that plugs into the bottom of the DV's. I replaced that hose, and still have unsmooth boost delivery. What else might be the culprit here? Maybe the N75 valve is on its way out? Sticky wastegate actuators? I haven't gone underneath to investigate them. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Connor

So as you are on the right track, look for leaks or damaged waste gates. Pressure test the system...DVs, hoses, etc.

Sounds like a stuck/sticky wastegate arm bushing which is located in the turbine housing (this is giving you the erratic pressure levels). You haven't mentioned what turbochargers are fitted.

I've got stock K16's. Can I actuate the wastegate with my hand? I'm thinking I could squirt some WD-40 in there and see if that helps.

I will bet that it is a physical problem with the wastegate arm. Check to see if all the adjustment nuts are properly backed down, and clipped.

I would start here:

perhaps unrelated, but running 1.2 boost on stock K16s is too much...the most you should run is 1.0 IMHO.

Tony at EPL gave me the off the shelf tune for K16's, I've heard only great things about those guys...So i dunno? I don't have a reason to doubt him.

I will have to get under my car this week and check out the wastegates.

Call Tony and explain what you're getting. Also ask him about efficiency of K16s with boost >1.0...

I occasionally see 1.2 with my K16's. Not for an extended period, but will see it from time to time as I approach the redline under full throttle.

Check out this thread and what happened to me after a tune upgrade, could be your problem.
