Bought my turbo S nearly 1 year ago , did fit a new set of continentals at the rear followed by a geometry check. Haven't done 5000 miles yet since. Took my rear wheels off this morning to inspect the brakes and to my surprise noticed I have starting already to wear the threads blocks !! Tyres seems to wear much more on the inside (Left side more compare to right side). I have done 1 weekend to the Ring and did around 8/10 easy laps there , done lot of motorways and don't drive it like a lunatic at all , occasionaly go full chat on open road but occasionaly.

I had many Highly tuned Audi Quattros in the past and I remember managing to get 12000 miles on front tyres and I was driving it fast and was pushing it hard in bends.

Is it normal to only managed 5000 miles with the rear on these babies ?? Can't be right is it ?

I am going to fit some new boots and have the geometry checked again , must be something wrong with setting.

Guys ! How many miles do you get from your rear boots and in whish style of driving ?

However my front tyres are fine and don't wear that quick.

It depends on your driving. With no track days, stock alignment, and the occasional spirited jaunt, you should get about 10000 miles on the rears.

Depending on how you drive and your setup, this can vary.

My answer to poor tire wear is Sumitomo HTR Zll. I ran 2 sets on my C2 and loved them. After scrubbing them in, I found them to be very confidence inspiring on the Turbo as well. A terrific street and canyon tire for banging up and bruising my passengers in the turns. Good in the wet, surprisingly good in the snow for a summer tire. Better wear than the llls too.

I get 10,000 - 11,000 miles on my rears. Stock 2003 tt, Hankook V12s, street alignment.

Only 5,000 miles on my last set of Sumitomo HTR ZIII rears.
One DE when I first got them and 1 AutoX, a few spirited drives.
Even wear across the tire.
A theory is that they might not have been scrubbed in too well before the DE event (prolly put 500-1k miles on them before the DE). I was quite surprised.
Once the fronts wear, think I'll go to Michelin's all around.

If the car is setup at the facotry specs, sometimes taking out some of the positve toe and keeping it within the specs, and the camber and keeping it in the factory specs, you may get a little more out of your tires.

Sounds like your alignment is off, keep in mind that at the rear too much toe will kill the tire faster than camber, have your setting checked and request a printout from your shop.

Yes, have you alignment checked. The rear toe was off on my car and ate the rear tires in 6 months.

Check alignment. I have PS2's and I have 10k street miles on my rears and they still have life left

Have you had Michelin's before, I 'd like to know how they compared to Sumitomo HTR ZIII.

Do the Sumi's handle as well as the Michelin's PS2 ?

I have heard great reviews on the Sumitomo's from a lot of Porsche owners who have had them on front and back.

A couple of summers ago, I corded my rear Michelin PS2's with less than 1,000 miles on them-granted, the car was tweaked with EVOMS' GT700 kit, but my suspension was the factory X73 setup with no crazy negative camber dialed in-I practically had Tire Rack on speed dial....

I have to agree. I tend to get about 12k on my rears, but don't DE them.

This is my esxperience: I have driven my car 130,000 miles since new in 2002 and had GT2 alignment specs and OEM turbo alignment specs. I used Michelin PS2 & Michelin Pilot Sport Rib for years, Perelli (1st set) and now recently Hankook. I have yet to get much more than 6,000 miles out of any set of rears regardless of brand or alignment...Street use only, lots of fast starts, seldom any burn outs...
