Dealer gives you a real # in 15 minutes, you get a tax credit (in my state at least), and doesnt really expect anything.
Example... I was thinking about trading my current 996. Dealer offered me $25k. Factor in another $1500 for tax credit and it's up around $26.5k. IF I could get more than that on private sale it would only probably be by a grand or two and would be a total pain in the *** honestly.

I can relate to the OP honestly. I've always found private sale too hard. Too many people offer barely anything over the dealer trade offer, take forever to decide, and expect perfection.

The tax credit matters the more $$ the car is worth so agree there. I have pretty much always PP'd my cars if $25K or below and sold them in just a few weeks. Tons of buyers that would rather buy from owner at that point and with right ad and selective sale its really easy. I bought my 996 TT via private sale and so glad I did. Saved a ton and got a fantastic car. I have had very few positive trade-in scenarios. I always look at the trade-ins as the market for lemons. In the case of this car maybe not, but only us on rennlist know that.
Interesting... I only have done PP for specialty cars (like the NSX's I've sold) where dealer can't value it right.
A commodity car like the 911.... Im sure that if I sold mine PP someone would say "wow I got a GREAT DEAL!", but thats the buyer

If I got $28k selling PP after 3 weeks vs $26.5k trading in after 15 minutes incl the tax credit, thats not worth it to me. I prefer fast/easy vs giving someone a good deal.
The 996 market may have something to do with it also since everyone buying a 996 expects to steal it (not turbo)

What's the button underneath the manual spoiler raise?
That is the "footwell lighting" button. I don't think I ever used it once but now we all know
