Ay caramba...my rams are leaking! No warning light yet but it will come - I wiped off the plastic caps and there was more fluid within a day. I may try the "power steering stop leak" additive before replacing.

Cheers Ben

Now the parts cost I got a hard copy of my cost for the spoiler from the parts department.

I won't have it done this month but maybe in March. Then we'll see. I'll also ask what's involved.
Understood, and my 30 minutes doesn't have any overhead, insurance, etc. to cover so you'd expect more cost from a dealer not to mention some sort of guarantee!

The dry Teflon spray i mentioned a bit back has removed the warning light for me now for two months with one application. Maybe mine wasn't as low on fluid but for $9.99 it could delay the replacement for a while.

Problem with dealers is they charge the book rate, even when they can do it in under an hour.

Macster, have you considered a used part? This is in SF Bay craiglist, near Fremont. Don't know what color your car is, but it's turn key, ready to go. 1/3 the price of new. Looks little used.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/3616196486.html

Anyway, good luck, keep us posted with your results.

Hard to imagine the dust shields dragging so much the spoiler hydraulics not able to raise the spoiler all the way up.

I did nothing and the warning light didn't come on again right away but then it came on and I tried to live with keeping the speed low enough to avoid spoiler deployment but that didn't work and then the spoiler came up crooked.

That's when I removed the spoiler (and engine compartment latch electrics) fuse.

I just do not have the time or the place or frankly the motivation to work on this. If had the time and place and motivation I'd replace the bad one with a new one. I'm afraid the used one if not bad would soon go bad.

The factory setup costs $10K. $8K for the GT2 engine compartment lid alone. The spoiler wing costs another $2K. And both items require painting.

An aftermarket GT2 wing is IIRC around $2500. And this has to be painted too.

No if I'm going to fix it, and I will, it will be with factory parts. The techs tell me they've never had a replacement unit fail.

Snow and rain today in Montreal so I've decided to navigate the net and found an interesting site that is mentioning being able to overhaul the spoiler system....Anyone know about this place? http://cabriolethydraulics.com/porsc...hydraulics.php

Would be nice to know if they can supply a kit of o-rings or seals needed to do the job....I am curious also to know the price to get the system functional again....

I put an aftermarket one with the top wing element in CF, painted it, total investment was under $4K.
It works and looks just fine.

Just called them up. They will rebuild your rams for $700. New Viton seals, fresh fluid... 2 day turn around time plus shipping. $700 still seems a bit steep to me though, IMO.
