IIRC the Porsche dealer parts manager quoted me $300/each for new hydraulic rams.

But there is the labor to remove the system, put it on the bench replace the rams, rig up something to then bleed/balance the new rams and after the spoiler assembly is installed ensure the spoiler goes up and down properly.

Thanks for the info. In fact $700.00 is a lot of money to get the system overhauled...Would like to see the process.....

And here's the email they sent me:

The price to rebuild the complete assembly is $600 plus $15-$20 for shipping. We would rebuild your unit within 2 business days as we do not stock these for outright sale or exchanges. The unit must be shipped to us complete and not have been disassembled or tampered with. Sometimes we find home made parts and damage in these things that requires extra costs to repair. The assembly will be shipped back to you filled with hydraulic fluid and ready for installation. Thank you for the inquiry.

Hmmm, it'd be nice if they had a cost on their web site. But even $600 seems high but the web site indicates a three year warranty for whatever that's worth.

I had a replacement unit fail. I just pulled the receipt and the 2nd pump and ram assy was installed Feb 2110 @ 12062 miles at a cost of $1229. I bought the car April 2011 with 14750 miles. This second pump/ram failed at about 17000 miles. So my 2nd pump/ram lasted about 5K miles. It was replaced for the previous owner by an Indy, out of state so I didn't bother trying to get it warrantied.

The pump is actually 2 separate parallel cylinders each with a piston and push rod that are tied together with a plastic block. Each piston feeds a ram. The plastic block has a single screw ram in the center that is attached to a motor. The screw ram pushes the block that push the pistons that push fluid into the rams beneath the wing. The plastic block in my pump broke causing non synchronized piston movement which caused the wing to extend and retract unevenly. Leaking cylinders and a low fluid level will cause the screw ram to overextend and finally break the plastic block. There should be a limit switch to prevent this. I may machine a block out of aluminum repair mine some time. I just took off the whole wing and actually like it better. I have yet to make a couple of inserts to plug the existing holes for the rams in the spoiler lip.

Why would anyone replace a faulty design with the same is beyond me. Fixed wing FTW.
