I just started up my car and lowered the windows to clear the rain off. Drivers side did go down - but made a horrible noise and refused to go back up.
I can hear the motor running, and I can sometimes get it to raise a little (but never lower now unless I push the glass down). It even goes up sometimes when I'm trying to lower it with the switch.
Continues to make a horrid noise (bit like loose metal or metal on glass).
I am guessing the window has come out of the carried for some reason. Given the time of year, I need to try to fix this myself tomorrow or I'm likely to be a bit stranded (typical, I sold my second car on Tuesday!).
Any tips on removing the interior door panel to get access? I assume I have to disconnect the battery due to the air bags - but how do I remove the panels / air bags?
Also - any other ideas about what might be the cause?
I picked up a new regulator today, but delayed dismantling the door since I need the car tomorrow. Assuming the weather is OK, I will replace the regulator on Thursday.
Picked up a regulator on Monday, and fitted it this morning. Pretty easy job (at least, once you realise you're trying to re-mount the motor to the door the wrong way around....). Cable had snapped completely on the old regulator (and was a bit of a rust colour actually).
Biggest problem was that I haven't used the car much the last week, and once I'd done it, checked the windows worked and were aligned etc. etc. - I went to start it up and got nothing more than some frantic clicking....
Quick charge and everything is now fine. Means I probably need a new battery at some point, since I don't think it really should have been flat - but I'll see how it goes over the next week.
Good news is, I've had a slight rattle from the door since I bought the car 3 years ago - one of the speaker bolts was loose, and that's now solved. So as well as a working window, I now have a rattle free car too!
You can have the battery tested to see if it's due for a new one. Otherwise, just charge it overnight for two days and see what happens. A battery tender will keep the battery fresh and last longer.
