Default Front license plate mounts.

This is simply a copy and paste from the 997 forum regarding a custom bracket I made for my 997. I thought it might be of help for 996 guys who don't wish to drill holes in the front of our cars. Better late than never??

"Here is a custom bracket that I fabricated for my Carrera S. It mounts under the front bumper. I was not going to drill holes in the front of my car just to keep the DPS in Texas happy. F-UMMM.

The license plate is mounted on two aluminum rods that are bent to the contour of the front of the car. They slide into two hollow tubes of a slightly larger diameter than the rods.
These tubes are welded to a flat plate which is bolted through the bumper. You need a matching plate under the bumper to lend rigidity to the exposed mount.

I drilled a hole through each hollow tube and the aluminum rod that accomodates a hair pin cotter. The plate can be removed at any time by pulling the hair pin cotters and sliding the assembly forward.

Hope someone can make use of this."

So you're thinking that will fit a 996 Turbo?

So that is where the holes in my bumper came from! I was blaming my buddy who I bought it from. Did all the older model cars have these holes??

I offered the solution for those whose cars don't have holes (my Carrera S) and who wish to avoid holes. If the info is useful to your situation, use it. If not, never mind.

In my case, in Illinois, I learn slowly. It was three tickets, at $60 each (but got two in one day, so they waived the second one.) It was a quick $10 - $15 for the Porsche front mount. Sorry I waited so long - Shoulda Woulda Coulda.

Why wouldn't you just use a tow hook mount

Because, the tow hook mount costs $135.00 and the standard front plate mount costs about $15. No contest. I can find a lot of other things (even for the Turbo) for which the $120 is better spent.
