996 TT as a Daily Driver?
I bought a 2004 CS4 Cab as my DD and I love it. I have been offered an opportunity to upgrade to a 2004 TT Cab - I would most likely have to sell both my CS4 and my 1984 Carerra but after driving one - this seems like it might be worth it...
My question is - how many of you guys are using a TT as a your DD? I am worried it might be a bit much car to drive every day.
Are my maintenance costs similar between the CS4 and the TT?

I drive mine to work everyday, on my day off I still look for a reason to jump in it and go for a ride. Someone above said why would you want to. I can answer that, life is too short to let an awesome car like this rot in your garage.

i totally agree, why let it rot and why not be seen in it I just bought mine as a daily driver and I will be putting 15k+- miles a year on it. 1st recommendation is switch to a comfortable tire like the Sumitomo HTRZ or Hankook, the Pirelli's were too harsh for me. Plus i have been testing the AWD in the rain and the car is quite safe, if it snows clearance is an issue Rent a truck if its an emergency.

I wish there was more time in the day to drive a 996TT. It is, in my opinion, the best car in the world for the money. An exceptional bargain, completely reliable, very easy to drive, not bad on the eyes, and an absolute rocket!

Otto06,
It's a great DD - you should not be worried about anything in terms of reliability - provided you maintain the car.
Mine (2003 X50 Turbo) has 343,000+ miles on the ticker and it continues to make me smile at least twice daily!!
Good luck!!

After much research on the topic I bought my TT and use it as a daily driver. One comment that stuck in my head from a Porsche service manager, "the TT is the SC of the 996s". 2 months in, I am still looking for excuses to drive somewhere. I plan to buy an SUV for the winter just to preserve the car but I have a few friends in Colorado that drive them year round. My advice, go for it and don't get stuck in analysis paralysis.

Great car for DD...you can drive it like a granny all day long or hit it hard and enjoy the boost - up to you. Depending on your mods - may be softer or harsher.
I will say that if you have a long commute and are looking for a soft, comfy, boat-like ride with lots of gizmos - you may be disappointed. I'll put @8k on per year, only complaint is that I work from home and have no commute. It is an amazing car that continues to grow on you.

No problem. I drove my all year..had snow tires/wheels...just did 265's in back with big spacers on NB wheels...18's.
Now I have a beater SUV (land rover) as the town is seemingly under constant construction and the potholes/junctions/gaps can be a real 4" drop hear and there....but the car gets used 3-4x / week....or more.
(make sure you do a 2m cool down idle every time...on a DD it is tempting to cut that short...I sometimes do 1m if I know I am getting right back in...gas, dry cleaners, etc....but that is the exception and I drive easy tow the stop...99% of the time it is 2m on the nose)

It is a great DD! Mine has 81K and counting (T2 is my hero!).
I do have a BMW 328i with 165K for those days with snow on the roads. Yes I know, the TT would be much better in the snow than the BMW but I just can't take the chance of an idiot sliding into me. I live in the blue ridge mountains with lots of hills and yes...a few idiots but it is really beautiful and a blast to drive in this area.

Jeff, does it have to be at idle? my cool down is the 2 miles into my development driving at 25mph in third. low RPM's and no boost on the turbos.
I was considering that my cool down.
