Default If they would have let me design my 996 TT "S"...

it would have had a 22 gallon gas tank.
the gas cap would have been locking
it would have had a HUD display
and a tire pressure monitor
and backlit sill plates
and a manual bonnet release
and a dip stick
and a reliable spoiler extender system
and another 100 horsepower

Older 996 cars (pre facelift and Turbo and GT3 release in US) have manual bonnet releases, and it's a pain in the *** because you have to go into the car first before you can get into the trunk. Being able to unlock it from the key fob saves me the trouble.

it would have had a 22 gallon gas tank.
when my TT was a daily driver that was my concern...now I do not mind at all...since i drive it occassionally

the gas cap would have been locking
why?are you afraid of somebody stealing your fuel? or affraid of somebody throwing something in it?

it would have had a HUD display
buy a M5 or a corvette...

and a tire pressure monitor
can me done even now

and backlit sill plates
ok

and a manual bonnet release
can you explain why on this particular one please?

and a dip stick
isn't electronic dip stick ok?

and a reliable spoiler extender system
yes yes

and another 100 horsepower
uk evo magazine some years ago had a comparison between a murcielago a 550 or 575 i cannot remember and a turbo S...
otehr cars has more power but S was very close to them..
on the other hand 100 Hp more can be eassily done...

Maybe he wants a manual trunk release so that when the battery dies he doesn't have go into the fusebox to get it open.

The gas tank size is fine with me.

A HUD is overrated.

I carry my tire pressure monitors with me all the time...my hands (how the car is driving), and my tire pressure gauge.

What are backlit sill plates?

After over 10 years of ownership, I've never needed a manual bonnet release or a dip stick.

My spoiler has worked perfectly for over 10 years.

I agree on the horsepower; I got my additional 100 hp courtesy of EVOMS and a wad of cash.

My personal want-list for the OEM Turbo had to be attained after I ordered the car; A shorter throw/more precise shifter, a LWFW, a better suspension, a smaller diameter and thicker steering wheel, a better/louder exhaust, and rear wiper delete.

the gas tank issue stems from using my 964 as a DD, and now the 996. The 964 held almost 21 gallons.

getting gas today, and having read the post from the dog dude, i can see a pin under the fuel door filler. it appears that it does not work...so get that fixed.

The HUD issue - loved it on my 550i

TPM - ibid

The sill plates are the stainless steel things on the body frame. Mine says Turbo S...I think it would be a cool touch to back light these, MB and BMW do this, and i think not is a nice touch.

when the battery dies, to charge/jump you have to go through one more step to get it going again. It is an annoying step, and I am pretty sure it was an over site that just never got corrected.

Dip stick....no, the electric one seems to be imprecise to me. Plus, it gave me a reason to open the engine deck lid on my 964, and check belts, and stuff.

if I had to choose just one thing that I would change it would be the gas tank. I really got used to going almost 300 miles in the city before fill up.

I don't think there's room for a much larger fuel tank on our cars with the extra driven wheels and radiators up there. I know that in Europe the GT3s came with 90 L (~22 gallon) fuel tanks, which I can only dream of.

What was beneficial about the HUD display?

How precise do you need the oil quantity display to be?
