Default Chinese Intercoolers Hit the Market (again)

Just a warning to folks who may be intercooler shopping, sets of $999 Chinese knock-off intercoolers are showing up on certain bid sites.

Here are the (BS) specs:

This is a bar plate twin intercoolers for Porsche 911 996 Turbo 2011-2005
The heat transfer efficiency is 25% higher than factory one
There are right and left side intercooler included in this list
Every intercooler do high pressure leakage test under 4.5 bar before package
Core size 358mm x232mm x90mm
Could handle 750Hp+ engine cooling work
Pressure Drop less than 0.8%

Item location: 上海, 上海, China

Look familiar? Its because several popular vendors have been selling these for years for 2x the price. Don't get scammed, these perform WORSE than stock.

I don't have a dog in the fight, but I'm wondering where your data comes from. How do you know they perform worse than stock?

I saw on 6speed you had a 997.2 comparison, but I didn't see anything on these. Can I see the data if you did?

Whats the part number for the 997.2 IC?

Thanks

Sweet...I'd been holding off, but now I can save big!

I've rarely seen an intercooler properly spec'd.. almost always incomplete or just nonsense

Earl, if you're the same Earl on 6speed I've done all the reading, thanks. I know what I need to do now.

As long as chinese coolers don't leak, do you think there is much difference when it comes to cores?

Does not seem to be rocket science...

You should read Earls intercooling testing data, you may be surprised.

To spare the gory details, core differences can manifest as 0 to over 100hp gains/losses. Engine gets hot IATs, pulls timing, reduced boost, richens AFRs to save itself, hp drops like a rock.

Good heat exchangers are critical in the aerospace industry, particularly on fighter aircraft and satellites where space to fit stuff is an issue. The best air-air Porsche intercoolers use handmade aerospace cores to get a high enough fin density to cool decently since we are limited to a core length of ~14". So yes, there is a little "rocket science" involved. The intended use of the car will of course dictate the necessity for these types of coolers.

Do you think there is a big difference between a Kia and a Porsche ?
Both drive and have wheels. Intercoolers are the same thing, I believe you can find those differences everywhere.
