New (to me) 2001 996TT, Seal Gray/Black, near Seattle, WA USA
My intro could get long-winded, but truth is few have patience beyond 250 words (grin). Will stay under that.
The stars aligned in 2011 for me to make a sports car purchase. My history was mostly with motorcycles, BMW saloons + a convertible, and various Toyotas. Cars/trucks all nice enough, albeit a bit dull in the details.
My finalists were 996TT (996), Nissan GT-R (2009), and a C4S (997). Last two were low $60s, a bit out of my price range for a boondoggle/spare car, but what the heck.
End of December, after various test drives, I went with the local dealer-consignment 2001 996TT. 33.5K miles, immaculate, records, trustworthy dealer and 1-owner. Viewed all inspection materials, found it in-order, made the deal for an agreeable sum. Recent replacement of slave, spoiler hydraulics, and sundry other details to the tune of $5K really, really made me feel better. Oh, and they replaced a bad coil, too.
Now I split the daily slog between that and my trusty Toyota XRunner (Tacoma). I am amused what a competent DD the 996TT is, yet it can turn into a raging fiend with (or even without) a quick downshift. Loving it so far, 1.5K miles later. High hopes; we’ll see.
Not much into DIY anymore, and there are at least two known-good independents in greater Seattle. I visited both and liked what I heard.
Thanks for this forum, will hope to make contributions in the future! Bye for now, from Seattle WA USA...

congrats! Looks like a very clean Turbo ( on the outside) Definitely a good purchase considering the alternatives vs price. 996TT prices should hold steady for well maintained examples. Are there any mods on the car? exhaust looks like it could be Speedtech.

Very nice and welcome. Let the mods begin. LOL.
I know... you aren't going to do mods, but it's addictive. If I lived in WA, I might have to make a personal visit to Kevin at UMW.
BTW. Nice photography.

Thanks, all. It seems nice enough, and appeared at just the right time. Lasted less than a week on consignment.
Interior is quite clean. "Perfect" isn't right, he did drive it for 33.5K miles, but the original owner truly loved this car. Not sure it ever even saw rain.
I have records from the past few years, service at this dealer (yes, Barrier). If I ever encounter original owner, will try and get the rest since he ordered it straight from Porsche for 2001 model year.
Couple minor mystery-mods:
- Smoke side markers/taillights.
- Some sort of short-shifter. 997 SS? Pointed out by consignment dealer during the test drive. Having no other data points, can't understand why they all "wouldn't" be like that.
- Exhaust.
- Rock Guard or similar all over the front: saved me the trouble.
Haven't crawled underneath to examine the exhaust, yet. Sounds nice enough, not raucous. Not much of a mods kind of guy, but they do creep up on a person and before you know it...
Photos are straight out of my Canon S95 (pocket). Camera mode: eye-dropper color select, everything else is B/W. Striking shots in certain environments. Seal Gray 996 on asphalt, overcast January morning...the most interesting color was red!
Wasn't aware of Cantrell Motorsports, 2.5 miles from home per Bing Maps. Think I'll pop in: seem to learn something new every time I visit one of the local specialty shops. He'll have me at 600hp in no time, eh?

Nice car, and you made the right choice. Mod wise, UMW, Kevin's flash is the best bang for the buck period. The way they should come from the factory.

Colin Cantrell does not push mods, in fact helped modulate some of my expenditures
Handled all my routine work, plus setting up one car for DE's, and one for racing
Never have to worry about whether something he recommends is really needed or not
Kevin's flash is a must

I am considering purchasing this car (I think it's the same anyway) and would love to hear more about it from a prior owner. Blondebaerde, if you see this message, would you mind taking a moment to PM me? I would greatly appreciate it (and I can't PM you because I don't have enough posts yet). Thank you!
