Mobile 1 5w40 turbo diesel oil

High oil consumption can sometimes be misidentified too, so you want to be sure of the oil consumption number to avoid causing yourself unnecessary mental anquish.
To id and fix the cause could be an expensive job. The cause could with the rings, pistons/cylinders, valve guides/stems, valve seals, even the turbo seals, to name at least the more obvious possible causes.
My advice would be to as long as the engine continues to be free of any other symptoms or problems to simply learn to live with the higher oil consumption.
At the same time, you might consider trying another oil, say Mobil 5w-50 oil, in the hopes a slighly heavier 5w-50 synthetic oil sans the mineral oil component that the Turbo Diesel oil has might be less readily consumed in the engine.
Sincerely,
Macster.

Its not just the engine that can cause high oil consumption...worn out/bad turbos can be a contributing factor as well. Just saying that its not a foregone conclusion that the engine is doing the consuming. Good luck. I find my consumption a tad high at about 1000 miles per quart, but by all accounts that is within Porsche's acceptable range. Good luck.

It also depends on the type of driving you are doing. My consumption is higher when I do a lot of city driving versus highway. Overall I still always seem to get about 1500 miles per quart. In summer I run castrol syntec 5w50 or M1 5w50 if I can find it. Winter castrol syntec 5w40. Consumption is definitely better with the 5w50. I've decided to stop worrying about it as long as engine runs well and it's within spec
