Default Moaning sound

hey all,
I just got my 02 turbo. I'm thrilled with it. I do have a question though. I noticed a moaning sound from the car. It can be heard at idle, and gets worse when you turn the wheel. My first thought is low power steering fluid. What do you guys think? Is there something else that commonly makes a similar sound?

Some 996tt have an issue with the PS control valve,, which requires the resevoir to be replaced. No cheap fix. The part costs around $800. Could also be an idler pulley.

your instinct is probably correct. check the pentosin reservoir for the proper level. if low it will "whine" when turning the wheel. the sometimes faulty ps reservoir valve is more like a whistle that goes away upon engaging the clutch. oh, the familiar sounds of the illustrious 996TT.

Is your wife riding with you when it happens?

I knew that was coming! I'm not married so no... On a good note my instinct was right. There was very little due to it sitting so much. I added a fair amount, and no more noise!

Your resevoir was down due to sitting? That doesn't sound right.

Seals dry out and it can cause a loss of fluid. I've never seen a Porsche that likes to sit. They need to be run.
