Where is Kevin located? I notice that you are in the North Texas area. I too have a 2005 Turbo S and am considering a flash and exhaust upgrade. I have been talking to the guys at RUF and was going to move forward with them, but I'm curious about Kevin after reading this post.

Kevin is in the North West.
I talked to him last week. I was blown away by his understanding of my car and the time he took to walk me thru the options. In the end, I was very clear on my options, costs and the impact it would have on the car. No question that when I'm ready to upgrade that UMW will get my business.
Because I have a Tip and the X50 package I'll be starting with a flash and wastegate. Then, I'll likely switch out the turbos.
I'm in Plano. I'd be interested to hear what you are planning.

Hans at RUF recommended ECU flash, upgraded exhaust system and upgraded DV's. You and I already have larger snails with our stock setup and he didn't recommend new turbo's for my first upgrade. I am not looking to get into the 650hp range or above, just want to make a few changes that will make a great car even better.
How do you contact Kevin? Does he have a website?

http://www.ultimatemotorwerks.com/ I was planning on doing the flash next month. I was advised to first replace plugs, MAF and O2 sensors. So, I will do all that at the same time as the flash..

Kevin was a godsend when it came to my dd/track 996 TT. He even looked at my data logs from track days and was able to tweak the tune and give me advice on better fuel. Also When I switched my exhaust to a FVD Race system he sent me a fix for my ecu so I wouldn't throw a CEL code.
+1 for Kevin and UMW

So I've had a couple weeks with the car and was able to get out for a good run on Sunday. What can I say? It's a lot faster. The boost comes on so much quicker than before, early in the RPM's. In fact it's hard to keep it off boost while the engine is still warming up. It feels like if I just barely depress the throttle I'm looking at .3 BAR. I haven't totally gotten on it but I did get 1.1 BAR briefly.
I've heard others say the tune wakes the car up and it almost sounds like a cliche, but that's a good description. You get power early and it just goes. There's not much time to enjoy each gear. Lot's of fun!

Whom advised you of this? What are you replacing the MAF for and with? Why the O2 sensors? I did UMW 5 years ago and have the same MAF and O2 sensors with NO issues.

Bill > "I" make the general recommendation to change the plugs. And while you are in there change/upgrade the coil packs to the 997TT units. If someone asks me what else do I recommend, I follow up with adding O2 sensors and a new MAF.
Does one need to do all these items for a Flash> No.. But if you quickly get a misfire after the flash you quickly find out that it's the plugs. For a rule of thumb with crappy 91 octane, I would be changing the plugs at 20K miles.
