Default 996TT NOT HOLDING ALL REVS

Hello to everyone!
I have a 996TT with 15K,the car hasn't been driven much by previous owner(5k in 8 years) and I put 10k in the last year I've owned it.
Sometimes when I push it hard, from 6500 RPM and up it won't hold the revs and I get a burned rubber smell after.
Whenever I'm cruising or not passing 6500 RPM it's great.
I'm thinking it's the clutch.
I also read somewhere it was a safety so you don't over rev.
Either way,it's weird for such a low mileage 996TT that's never been abused.
It's also a CPO car,I got another year left,but I don't think they cover the clutch,right?
Not to mention that I can't never get the 4 sec 0-60 mph with this clutch.
Any hardcore racing clutch you would recommend?
Any idea what's causing it?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you!

Mine redlines at 6500. I don't think you are supposed to push it above that. You should stop doing that before you break the car.

As for your 0-60 times, that's a professional driver under ideal conditions. The launch and shift from 1st to 2nd makes all the difference. That said, I did manage a run in 4.4 seconds a couple of weeks ago with a friend's accelerometer.

I tooks 6 runs and ranged from 5.3 to 4.4 seconds. Light winds, but the temp was 87 which is a little warm for timing runs. I'm still learning the car and know I'm not the fastest on the stick. I was pretty pleased with the 4.4.

The factory red line is at 6600 RPM. If your car is stock, there isn't much "pushing" going on above 6500 RPM.

Right. I was just clarifying that the factory red line is 6600 RPM, not 6500 RPM. If someone is not using the limiter to determine when to shift (that is, they are shifting at red line), then in a stock Turbo it is my opinion that there isn't much going on in that last 100 RPM from 6500 to 6600.

Dock,my car is stock.
I guess from what I'm reading here that it's not the clutch and that it's just supposed to cut off if you're going over 6500 RPM.
Thank you.

Fuel cut off is at 6750, but why take the engine past red line?

You're right Dock!
I just thought the redline is higher.
I didn't even realize where it is,I just thought around 6500 RPM.
I didn't even know there's a fuel cut off to protect the engine.
So thanks!

Your tach has the red indicators for the redline, so not sure why you did not know! Most car have rev limiters to keep from over reving.

Keep driving it like that and you and your car may be in the "ICU".

Sounds like you are abusing the car regularly from your description. Drag racing is not what these cars are designed for, yeah they can do it...but that is tough on the engine and transmission.

Between the painted red area on the tach and the user's manual in the car how could you not know what redline is? Geez, amazing the way some treat their cars. Not even on track do I abuse my motor or gearbox like that.

These cars are meant to be driven hard! Porsche didn't make this car to go to church on a Sunday morning.
Plus,as I said,my car is CPO for another year,so when abusing it if not now?!
What's the worst it could happen? Engine?....covered! Transmission?....covered! Clutch?....not covered....but 700-800$.
Thank you for all your informations and critical opinions, everyone is right in their own way and budget.
I'm not going to drive my car with 50 mph when I spent 60K...and I hate to be passed by a 25K Mustang with upgrades.

Such horrible logic. These cars are very robust and solid and you can drive them very hard withot abusing them. Chances are driving the way you do will not rear its ugly head in the next year but the damage you inflict will come back to haunt you in the future. Unless of course you dump your problems and abuse on the used car market.

Unsubscribing.

If you think you can destroy the engine driving it like that and it is covered under CPO...you are crazy. They can see the over-revs and cause and that does not qualify as a mfr defect....that is called abuse.

You are right, these cars are designed to be driven hard - on a race track and in a PROPER manner. Two things you are clearly failing to do. Do you know what I do when a $5000 suped up honda drives by me...smile knowing that they wish they had my car. I don't NEED to race anyone on a public road.

I have never said this to anyone on this board before, but you are an idiot.

Post your VIN # so no one here buys your car.

LvDell,sorry you got upset.
I think you got the wrong impression about me,I am not abusing my own car like what this thread made you believe.
I am a newbie and that's why I've asked your opinion, but I've noticed.that everytime a newbie like me has an opinion(even if it's not to everyone's liking),all the other members start the ironies....oooohhh....your unredline is that red dotted line on your rev meter....etc. That's all!
