To all,
Brief update. I just rolled past 376,000 miles. This past spring I had decided to get the engine rebuilt, mainly because there were a couple of minor oil leaks and also one of the turbo's had a broken internal mechanical waste gate.
Once we got into the breakdown of the engine and started really looking at the parts what we found was virtually no wear on anything - the hatch marks in the cylinder sleeves were still there, very little to no wear on the connecting rod bearings, the cams, crank and lifters looked brand new. The head work was completed and upon reassembly they mic'd the valves and reported that they spec'd to that of a brand new valve.
At the end of the day we replaced all the internals, all the rotating items on the belt and all seals, gaskets, valves, guides, wiring harness, etc. I essentially have a brand new engine.
Looking back it would probably have been fine just buttoning up the engine with new seals, consumables, turbo's, harness and maybe a couple of items on the belt train.
I anticipate being able to take this engine for another long enjoyable ride. Ironically the first ten years have been filled with lots of fun and I hope the next ten are equally enjoyable.
T2 - continuing to knock on wood!!

Incredible T2!!!
I am very very curious and I believe I haven't asked you before : what brand and type of oil have you been using? Because to have little to no wear after 350K miles it's amazing!

To all,
For just about all of the miles on the car the oil was M1 0W-40 per Porsche recommendations. Over the last year of the cars life I have been using Motul 8100 5w-40.
After the engine rebuild we put Motul 8100 5W-40 in and I have been noticing some smoke at start-up. From what we are able to tell it may be the turbo seals not 100% sealed yet. Yesterday I put in M1 5W-40 TDT oil and the smoke is much less, much less. I am going to a DE event tomorrow which will hopefully allow me to really heat the turbo's up and get the seals to well seal. I am anxious to see what transpires with the M1 5W-40 oil and the DE day.
One other item to mention here again, I change the oil religiously ever 5000 miles. I also have a nice 10 minute warm up and cool down as the road I live off of is a 60MPH road heavily patrolled - my belief as is a few others is that these all played major contributing roles to the longevity and now the minimal wear I have experienced in my application.
Pierre - great to hear from you!!

So there you have it folks!
What other possible proof do you need to leave the Mobil 1 0W-40 alone?!
I do not work for Mobil 1 but I've always found oil threads funny...ooooh...use this...it's better! Noooo...use that....it's even better!
370K miles with little to no wear!!! Keep that in mind!
