Here is a fantastic post about the Bosch 710A (Stock) and the 710N (Upgrade DV)

baileys are maintenance free. life time warranty. it has a delrin seal or something that looks like it. the bosches are thin rubber seals that eventually go out. mine were leaking from almost day one.

I have the Bailey's and prefer them to the Bosch. I installed Baileys when I purchased my car in '02. While tuning it a year or so ago, we found they were leaking (7 years/90,000 miles). I put 710's on and sent the Baileys out under warranty. The car ran fine, but seemed a little different. When the Baileys came back (they sent me a new set), I installed them. After the Baileys were re-installed, my car returned to normal again..the difference is the Baileys make a noise when they vent and the Bosch did not. It was a noise I was used to and something was missing with the 710's. The Baileys sound better...

I got these from Alex at Sharkwerks. I was amazed at how much better quality these were in comparison to the OEM ones.

Hey, I just call it like I see 'em. I use the same username on multiple boards, boats, firearms, cars, motorcycles.

Got the 2003 996TT a few months ago. Stock, which gives me plenty to upgrade.

I researched DVs looking for technical evaluations instead of vendor claims. The write-up linked to on 6speed was well done.

Bottom line for me was when either type fails you have to get to them. With one, you throw away the old and replace because they're expendable. The other (depending on the failure mode, seal failure versus dirt/debris versus lubrication) you fix yourself and reinstall or ship off and await replacement. Since the labor is the same I went with the expendable upgrade.

There is no right or wrong here, just what works best for your priorities.

the bailey are maintenance free and lifetime warranty. you are making a purchase by future replacement or problems. I have never heard of a bailey "failure". like any thing I'm sure they are some if so the are extremely rare.

throttle off and on between shifts are noticeably crisp with the baileys.

like I said it's a job you want to do once

good idea to change out the F pipe while your at it.

Yep. Baileys are the standard by which all others are judged.

When the 996 Turbo first came out it was common for the OEM DVs to have problems. There were many threads about bad DVs and what brand to replace them with. Porsche eventually stepped up to the plate and installed improved DVs, but during the times prior to the fix, Baileys were the go-to replacement DV...because they were (are) so good. They were the DV to have; and IMO they still are.

To bump up an old post, the Bosch 710N seems to be revised to 710P. Any good to install or search for the older type 710N?
