I noticed that after a car wash (when brakes get wet) the brakes are almost non-existent until they dry off from friction. Does this happen to anyone else?

I usually don't drive my Porsche in the rain, but I have a BMW with a set of Brembo BBK and after driving on the highway when its been raining, the brakes don't have any bite for the first second or two. Think it's cause I had to trim down the brake shields to get the rotors to fit.

I've never had this happen when washing the car. What pads are you running? I'm using the GT3 OEM pads on my GT3 calipers when on the street... I also am running a Coleman Racing Slotted rotor without drilling.

I have it too in a way that I just have to apply the brake with more power but it stops without an issue, only happens for a split second as with every car I have. When it rains no problem at all.

Unless the car is driven right away after washing (something I don't personally do), or unless it is warm with low humidity (rapid surface drying), the rotors will develop a thin coat of rust on the surface. This reduces the effectiveness of the first brake application.

I'm pretty sure they're OEM. I haven't had to change them since I got the car (about 5000km ago). It's definately something I can live with but it scared the crap out of me yesterday. Thankfully, I don't experience this in the rain.

Happens every time I wash her. Happened with my C4S as well. As I drive in winter, I wash every week in one of those hand high pressure washes. Before I go on the road to go home I brake the car in the car wash lot several times to get a bit of heat in them. OK after that.

I always apply the brakes a bit after leaving the car wash to ensure the brakes are dry and are ready just in case.
Also, I've had occasion to drive the car in some rain recently and noticed the brakes were a bit non-grippy upon the initial application after driving some time in the rain.
My Boxster doesn't exhibit this behavior after a car wash or when driving in the rain nor have any of my other cars.
The Boxster discs are vented but are solid in that they have no holes/slots or grooves.
Sincerely,
Macster.

I sometimes have the opposite problem. When the car sits for a while after being washed, it feels like the brakes are stuck to the rotors for a moment. To break them free, it's actually easier to back up than to go forward.

Burning Brakes
Normal carwash behaviour, especially if the weather is cold - winter washing. Mine does it too. One or two stabs on the brakes when I leave carwash and all is back to normal.
