Default Paint Code does not match color

On my options sticker, my paint code is listed as "L998 AH"

But when I look up "Guards Red" it is listed as 84A. When I look for 998 - it is not listed anywhere.

Car is: 2002 996 TT (Guards Red).

Any reason why color does not match code# ?

Thanks

Nevermind - apparently the sticker under the hood is not the "paint code". Needed to look under Felt Liner.

OK, now I am really confused.

The real paint code sticker says, "Y83 9 Amulett Rot (Audi)"

Does this mean my Porsche has Audi paint on it ?

Wow...here is what I found. Thank goodness an old original touch up paint bottle was still in the car.

The code on the Bottle is: LST 0U2 Y3C"
Which is listed here: http://www.zakparts.com/shop/article...0U2%2520Y3C%26

as "Volkswagen/Audi Amulet Red" and a paint code of "LY3C". Not the "Y83 9" listed on the paint code label.

EDITED I am so sad, I now have "Amulet Red" and not "Guards Red" which sounded so much more manly.

After finding out how "rare" this paint color is...I am now thrilled! I've always like the color...finding out that it is rare is a bonus!

If that's your car in your avatar, then I wouldn't be sad. That color is unique and really bitchin'!

I'm just glad I didn't buy the wrong touchup paint. I had "Guards Red" sitting in my Shopping Cart (Dr Color Chip) then I thought....maybe I better double check !

You are all right (renntech forum as well)...it is now very unique - I'm sure it will be a while before I meet a "Amulet Red" 996TT !

I am not a 'red' guy, but that is one rich looking color!

Like "Aorta Red"... (maybe the boys in marketing would object?)

Right after I bought it.

After I cleaned, clayed, polished and waxed

This is from a regular $100 Sony camera. I'll hopefully get some better pictures to show the color better, I don't have a nice camera so this is it for now.

It's so much nicer than the guards red...I'm not a big fan of red Porsches to begin with - but yours on a Turbo is awesome!

That shade of red looks great - I would be happy about it if I were you. My car is the ultra rare Arctic Silver, and as we all know you hardly EVER see one of those on the road...especially with a black interior!!
