996TT or 993???

One thing to consider with any air cooled car is that metals in the engine expand and contract alot more and the heads and such on the 993 may need rebuilds alot earlier due to wear. I like the 993TT alot, but for example the cylinder heads are ~ 1500 a piece per cylinder :O Parts are also rare.

Even a 996TT is not that fast stock. And the god awful interior....

Parts are readily available from the dealer, although some less common things need to come from germany which can take some time.

So what? My mustang would have made a 996TT look like a yugo, big deal.

may want to revise your statement. The list price for the 993TT cylinder head is $2,324. You can get them for $1,670.

I've ridden in cars that are very quick but even so could not make a 996 look like Yugo, let alone a 996 Turbo, and while these cars were fast, they were noisy (exhaust and no sound-deadening), hot (no A/C), smelled like gasolne and oil all the time, dirty (would *not* pass smog), required constant fiddlling, no way would one use one for any touring, and just all around uncomfortable. But fast. But no faster than many "off the shelf" cars.
As for the interior, I haven't been in a Ford -- save a rental car once or twice (at least once in a Ford Fusion) -- since I sold my '96 Mustang GT in in 2001, but I doubt Ford has got an interior that surpasses even the Turbo's. The Fusion was ok a step, maybe a step and half above the usual rental car tin, but I wouldn't swap my Turbo's interior for the Fusion's.
Sincerely,
Macster.

Not a stock Mustang, and not even the new GT500. 3820lbs vs. 3262. 550hp vs. 420hp. Fuel economy 14/22. According to Ford the newest one does 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. The 996 does 0-62 (0-100km/h) in 4.2 seconds. Oh, Ford claims to have paid extra attention to the car's aerodynamics and now it only exhibits 20lbs of lift at 120mph.

As to the rest, my cobra made 700rwhp. It had a full interior, air conditioning, full sound deadening, full exhaust and a lovely convertible top, etc. Sure it was a little loud, but that was by choice. It passed smog with no cats, and smelled only slight like gas. Used it for long trips, touring track events, etc. Constant fiddling, not really. It would make a 996TT, even a modified one, look very silly in a straight line.
The interior of the mustang is built like dog**** with cheap materials. But my car listed for $32,000 in 1999. The 996 turbo cost what, $115k? Sure the 996 materials are better, but that doesn't make the design any less unattractive.

The 993 S and 4S are style / design icons, but if you've driven the 996 TT and then climb behind the wheel of the 993 you could almost think you're in a Beetle.

I agree, I test drove a 993 S coupe, and although it sounded great, and looked great, I was totally underwhelmed by the power.

But they look and sound beautiful...
Maybe a 993tt is a good compromise. I've had a 993 and a Ruf 993 Turbo R. The 993 really is underwhelming. My bmw 7 series was faster. The RUF was a beast, but I bet a 996tt is a lot easier to drive fast.
I think a 996TT probably makes more sense... however, when buying a Porsche making sense usually isn't the highest priority.

Both are great cars- as all Porsche are in their own right.
Having just sold a 993 C4S with intentions of procuring a 997 -I now have a 996 Turbo Coupe.
Simply because- the 996TT is just too good of a deal to pass up.
Less money than many 993s and most 997 NON Turbo Coupes- the 996TT is an incredible car at a current incredible value.
I love 993 and all previous 911 cars -for what they are, that being said -the ergonomics from 69-98 were to me, basically the same car -slightly modernized over time.
The 996 is a new node in the branch where Porsche broke to a new platform -inspired by the previous only in spirit.
To me its a better car- and the Turbo is the flagship of the line so its primarily top level optioned standard.
In the end- its whatever strikes you most!

Beautiful photo. I am torn over silver or black rims. I love the look of yours.
Right now, I am digging my stock rims with no immediate desire to change.
Are you in Texas?
