Yep.

I would add, try to get a gt1 block....

so on the 996's get a tt or a gt3 version.... yada yada.

I had a 1995 993 C4..nice car...my first p car. To me scary fast.

Then I got the TT....996. Stock: wow. Add a little here and there.... WOW.

And you can drive it all year....and it looks just like the newest ones to me...it has aged well. My interior has been helped by some stuff, but to me, it has a very liquid/flowing look that actually wins for me. But, two tone natural brown does that...

the stock rims look great --- how are you liking your car? after you cleared the CEL have you had any further issues? did you find out if your car had been flashed. if you're looking for a sweet exhaust, i like my spi. the got the L2 package for 6k and had akram in houston put it together for me

Absolutely loving the car!

Last Thursday I had a coolant hose split and dump the coolant.

After a tow, 24 hours and $500, I was back in business. I about fainted when the RED light came on with steam pouring from the engine. Fortunately the engine never overheated since I stopped right away. Which reminds me, I need to get AAA.

I'm not certain whether the car is flashed. I can't seem to replicate the 1.0 I thought I saw last week. I have been able to get 0.8 twice, but no higher. So the verdict is still out.

I'm considering a Maxspeed exhaust that I found used.

The 996TT is the bigger bank for the bang for the buck car, the 993 seems to be turning into an classic as I write this. Any thoughts from you?
You need to put yourself behind the wheel of both, they are such different animals to drive.
The one that suits your needs / wants the most, will become obvious.....

Default My recent experience

Full disclosure to help out a fellow new buyer (to be). I also looked at the 993 as I think it's about the most beautiful thing ever made. But I wanted more power and 993TT was out of budget (also have a 951 track only car). After window shopping for some time I found my '01 996TT here at a local specialist dealer (everyone usually recognizes the dealer photo..). Pretty high miles at 57k, but the price was right at $37.5. The car was heavily optioned with everything i wanted (special order Cobalt Blue paint with matching sport seat backs, center console, all leather interior with deviated blue stitching) and didn't have stuff that I didn't want (trip or nav).

I've had it for a couple of months now and I'm happier with it every day. It helped that the dealer had Hans at RUF do the prep on the car prior to listing and his opinion was very positive on it.

When I was looking for a turbo, I loved hearing about cars selling in the 30's. Now that I have one, I don't feel the same way. Not sure why?

Nice purchase

the painted c4s lip is perfect on our cars. ok Q ... so if you haven't already, get an 997ssk shifter (not the regular 997 shifter) in your car. you'll be thanking me you did. there have been a few mods i've made that to me stand above the rest in how pleasurable it's made the car to drive and the 997ssk is on top of the list.

I am a big fan of the "right" short shifter. I always fitted them to my 986 / 996 cars when new.
I actually removed an awful short shifter from this car when i bought it. too short, too heavy.
Time to buy a 997ssk. what is the ssk fitted to standard ? or is it a techequip item ?

Most has been covered here...

That said...

I was in your shoes 3.5 years ago... Ended up with a modified 2001996TT... If you're talking stock 993, buy the 996TT... If you're talking 993TT, ask yourself how you will use the car... If It were strictly a weekend car NOT used for the track, I'd do the 993TT. If it were a DD or track day weekend terror, 996TT all the way... No question... For your FIRST Porsche, It'll be cheaper than the 993TT!

For the record, I think the 993TT is the sexiest porsche EVER made... nothing compares to that car... NOTHING.

Mike
