Default Tire repair kit recommendations? Going to ...

head out Monday afternoon for Lakewood Washington and thinking of picking up a good tire repair kit to have in the car just in case.

Any recommendations?

Sincerely,

Macster.

Years ago I invested in one of the more expensive kits that failed two miles down the road. Now days I carry a cheal ribbon plug kit, and the 12v. plug powered compressor that came with my car, along with a small scissor jack from a miata and the kit to pull the tire incase I need to get at the puncture from a better angle... Bottom line for my approach is you can fix it so long as it isn't a sidewall issue. However, I still carry the steel donut emergency spare for those issues. BTW, I've used those cheap ribbon plugs with great success...they're good for many many hundreds, if not thousands of miles if installed properly. They will certainly last long enough to get you to a service center or tire shop!

Griot's Garage sells a nice kit with or without a very high quality portable compressor. I have and use the compressor for the track. Includes a nice carry bag. I'd give you the link but I'm a computer barbarian.

+2 on the Griots, that's what I use. You could also buy a cheap plug kit from the parts store in a pinch.

Thanks for the recommendations. I don't have the time to order anything so I'll have to see what I can find at a good autoparts store. I think I'll buy two different kits.

Car already comes with an air compressor to inflate the spare tire. Maybe I should dig the compressor out and make sure it works....

Sincerely,

Macster.

^ Walmart sells a 12V air compressor for $7.99. Its tiny and works well. I helped an old couple stranded by the side of the road this past winter replacing a blown out tire. Their spare was low on air pressure. I also had to put air into my spare when changing one of my front tire two winters ago. Best $8 I have ever spent.
