collector plates - production numbers
Trying to obtain Ohio collector plates on the 01 turbo, to qualify I need to show production of less than 8,000 units. Many sources show a production of 2418 cars.
Does anyone have anything official from Porsche to show 2001 turbo production?

I am aware of a book called "Porsche 996 the essential companion" by Adrian Streather but the production numbers are for the world and it is a lot more than 2418.
2001: turbo only, 5324 (page 600) and the complete production of 996 was 27,275 (page 602)

Reasons for the collector plate are multiple. Registration is only $20.00 a year vs $60.00. No smog tests required. The car is a hardly driven garage queen that truly a car that I am collecting. I think its just cool to have collector plates

Isn't 996 and collector car in the same sentence an oxymoron???

Purchased the car two years ago with 30k it now has 35k. Most of the miles were put on the first year I had it. It has 600 miles on it so far this year.
As far as car collecting I suggest collecting the best car you can afford. For a poor boy like me its this car. 2418 01 996 turbos were sold in the US. While not rare certainly not an everyday car. FWIW I also have a b7 S4 that also has less than 1k miles on it so far this year.

While I understand your thought process, I guess the definition of "garage queen" or "low miles" is subjective. By your definition of collecting, I guess we are all collecting correct? My GT3 (04) was produced less than half what your 01 Turbo was and I never thought for a second it was a collector car.
I think I figured it out.......What you really want is a plate that says "car collector" not "collector car".
Now a 996 GT2? That IS a low production car. And even that it is not a collector car and not worth much more than a Turbo.
