I have been hearing a squeaky noise from the front area especially when in 1st & 2nd gear or coming to a stop, didn't find any loose body items but noticed both front suspensions squeak as I pressed the front down (by sitting on the car). Dealer visit scheduled in 2 days for air bag check. Is this normal? do I need a new set of shocks or just a service will do?

so the ball joints going bad can produce this kind of noise? aren't the ball joints connected to the steering?

The front springs sometimes makes noises when moving against the spring perch. A little wd40 will quiet them.

Initial (though not final) dealer impression is ball joint with control arm, quoted about $500-$600.
I asked if both need to be replaced, he said no. If it is the ball joint/control arm, wouldn't it be better to replace both? can meanwhile driving be unsafe?

CPO warranty lists these components to be covered:

• Drive assembly
• Steering (incl. power steering
and hose)
• Brake system (incl. master
cylinder, brake booster, pressure
accumulator, Porsche Stability
Management, etc)
• Suspension (incl. supercharger,
levelling sensor, pressure
sensor, etc)

Final diagnosis: lower left Front control arm needs to be replaced. Cost $825.
They say this part not covered under CPO warranty. I want to call customer center and ask for verification. Any input is appreciated.

First of all, Suncoast Porsche sells a front control arm for $300 for the part. Is $825 including labor?

Second, I don't see why this part is not covered under warranty. Definitely check with a higher authority.

Yes price includes labor.I have already established a request for warranty coverage verification with P North America.

Is it be better to replace them as pairs (R&L), dealer says no reason.

It's the bushing in the ball control arm that is worn and not the actual arm... to replace the bushing you have to replace the arm per design... the bushing is a wear item and I would doubt it's covered.

No different than brake pads from the dealer's perspective. Correct me if this is not the case.

and how about replacing only one side , car has 67k miles on it.

Sam, you are going to get a lot of opinions on that, however, this is how I would approach it: (just me personally)

If it was on my track car where I spend a great deal of time driving over 100 MPH I would have both sides replaced. If it was a street queen that I really didn't push much I'd replace the bad one and call it a victory. When my Dodge truck needs a bushing, tie rod, etc... I replace what is bad and move on. Some might argue that if the other control arm bushing goes bad in a short while you'll have to up for an additional alignment, but who knows how long you'll get from the other side. I usually align my Porsches annually so it's worth the gamble for me on a street car.

PS: Caveat here is we're talking about cars that for all intent and purpose are older with a fair amount of miles.

Thanks H_D, I'll keep an eye on the other side and when the time comes have an Indy replace it.

Update:
PNA just called back saying control arm is Not covered under CPO warranty. Boston area is not famous for its road conditions. Benefits od using a sports car as DD...oh well, it's worth the pain.

The car drives very nice & tight without any anterior noise. I never wanted to mention it here... that I always felt my Cayenne felt tighter and less noisy than the Twin Turbo. This arm defect could have been with us since I purchased the CPO car a year & half ago.
