Default 2001 996 tt BLOWN MOTOR

Hey fellows,

I am really in the dumps right now. I have a car at the dealer with a blown motor. The dealer said the entire motor is trashed and gave me a bid for 25,000 for a complete new motor installed.

Holy chit what ideas do you guys have. I could care less how it happend but need advise on rebuilding it for under $$15,000 .

Please advise,

patrick

Sorry for your problems. Call one of the salvage companies and see what they will charge you for an engine. Please tell us what happened so we can try to avoid the same thing.

Contact "Kevin" here also. I know he was able to get a crate motor a while back for another member. Don't know what the price was but as I recall it was categorized as a great deal.

Man that SUX- I pulled the salvage inventory for what is out there and here is a motor with only 6K miles on it for $15K but you can negociate. The inventory number is included. It was the only one in the system nation wide but alot of time the specialized yards do not post the high dollar stuff to avoid possible brokering deals..

Good luck- I hope this helps

Cheers, Mike

Pat, give me a call. 360.805-9066

Per our conversation this week, I'm curious as to what the dealer said. Did you call Barrier?

first off,

Thank to everyone in this GREAT community for their advice and a big hats off to Kevin. I have spoken to him 3 times now and he always has time for me.

I went to the dealer this morning. The final word is I am an idiot. The car is fine and I had them replace the coolant tank including new style antifreeze as well as both hoses leading in and out of the tank and do a complete 60k service including coils, brake flush, fuel filter, air cleaner, cabin filter, dash rattle resolved, poly rip belt, oil change, adjusted the front hood, new wiper blades and a full inspection of the entire vehicle.

The dealer charged me 2200.00 for every thing and the reason the plugs were left in is because they were replaced 7000 miles ago when a one of the vario cams failed and was replaced. The mechanic Mike has been working on these cars for almost 15 years and comes from so cal where these 996tt cras are everywhere.

I must thank both Scott and Mike from Lyle Pearson Porsche in Boise Idaho.

The car pulls so nice and it runs a whole lot smotther and the new coils have helped. next tuesday i am giving kevin my cc number to start the flash process.

i do feel like an idiot but I am glad this was not a 15-20k expence.

Once again I apoligize to all those who took the time to offer advise for my crying wolf episode.

Don't worry about it. I'm sure if any one of us thought that our motor had grenaded, we would be equally upset. Glad to hear it's OK.

I am confused. The same dealer that said the motor was blown, just did some maintenance on it and it is fixed? Or did you take it somewhere else for a second opinion.

Pretty big difference in opinion from your motor is shot to, hey you need some coils...

I went to a local porsche expert in my small mountain town. he said it was the intermediate shaft.

The dealer which is 150 miles away was the one who looked at it this morning. I took the risk(25,000) and drove there at 4:40 this morning.

by 8;15 I was back in the shop talking with the mechanic. So they made me a sweet offer at a full 60k package and a few extras that need attention.

The coils were kevin's suggestion in preperation of the re flash. The car runs smooth and am feeling very fortunate tonight.

I did drive the car home on some amazing mountain roads and got going pretty fast. I would never disclose how fast I drove it but I can tell you the road is clear of traffic for 5 miles some times and 60 miles of it has fresh paving from last fall. Silky smooth.

Sweet! Glad it was a lot less than a $25k repair! Always good to get a second opinion on high $ stuff!

And you got some good driving in!
